Canvas down?

Kids studying for APs, for the most part, do not rely on Canvas, and should have gotten most of their prep done already. AP exams are taken on Bluebook, so no problem there. My own kid is taking 4 AP exams this year and certainly did not need Canvas, nor has she heard from anyone at her school that other kids are being materially hurt by Canvas being down.

Just stop whining, will you?

The institutions in real trouble are the universities that lost Canvas right in the middle of finals taken on Canvas! Students move out of dorms right after their finals, the school year is over, they will need to find ways to create a grade without the missed finals.

Are you MCPS staff or just completely clueless (or both?) AP kids are studying like crazy. Just because you don’t know or don’t care about any of them and believe they “should have gotten most of their prep done already” does not mean you’re correct. This is a huge problem for many kids and an added stress they don’t need.

NP. My kid is taking 5 APs but canvas being down doesn’t affect that (except that he can’t do assignments for other classes). He has notes or is watching review video online or is doing practice problem sets he has. There is so much content available for APs online.
My college kid had a young professor that pulled a couple all nigjters recreating lost exams for the students …. I feel bad for him!

Canvas is back pretty much everywhere except MCPS. What is taking so long?

Mcps can’t take another lawsuit.
And between this and Naviance, they could have multiple potential lawsuits related to online privacy and third parties.

I don't understand how MCPS doesn't have it back up yet.

For the same reason MCPS stayed close until 7 days after a snowstorm when so many other districts were up and running a day or two after. A whole lot of high level staff who don't care.

3 days after the rest of the country.

But some features such as syncing with synergy are still not working. This is a big issue for many teachers especially if you teach seniors

It is not 3 days after the rest of the country. Many school systems waited to make sure Instructure had actually resolved the issue. The systems that went online Friday had massive issues and many had to go back offline.

... but teachers still can't sync grades from Canvas to Synergy

Anyone know when the synching grade option will return.

Many systems had Canvas up and running on Friday. I did not see anything about systems having "massive issues" in the news. It's easy to point at risks as an excuse for inaction.
