From an employment standpoint, it’s actually very interesting.

And employer preferences was the point of the article. It's not 1980 anymore.

Private "Top Ten" new ivies (alphabetical order, not ranked):

Carnegie Mellon
Case Western
Emory
Georgetown
Northwestern
Notre Dame
Rice
Tufts
Vanderbilt
WashU St. Louis

Public "Top Ten" new ivies (alphabetical order, not ranked):

US Air Force Academy
U Florida
Georgia Tech
Michigan
UNC Chapel Hill
Purdue
UT Austin
UVA
William & Mary
U Wisconsin Madison

Air Force Academy & Case Western are NEW to the list. Which schools came off?

West Point and Johns Hopkins

Hopkins didn't really come off the list...they moved it into the "Ivy +" group.

Yes Hopkins has been consistently ranked #6-7 in USNWR and other rankings.

There are 8 Ivies. Period.

I always find it crazy when we start with “southern Ivy”, “public Ivy”, “Ivy plus”… why keep using the moniker.

These schools were always good. There was just a number of articles that you need to graduate from a T20/Ivy in this poor economy in order to get hired. Now- of course- they zing back to - not true.

It just is all click bait on stressed out tiger parents and their mini tigers.

From that list, my favorites are Northwestern, Michigan, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Anybody could write an arbitrary list and accompanying article though.

Forums like this are why these lists are made. So much credence given to these arbitrary accolades and lines in the sand.

Hey my kid's school is on it, so I love it.

Also, if anyone asks if my kid attends an Ivy, I can tell them they attend a New Ivy...not that old, beaten-up crappy Old Model Ivy.

Oh bullshit. You don’t need the silly list to know the reputations of the schools.

It would be nice for the 'Public Ivy' list if they would put the out-of-state student Acceptance Rate and SAT/ACT numbers. I'm inexperienced here, but I imagine, for example, that Georgia Tech out of state is high-stats-applicants-only.

I bolded my DC's favorites but this list is full of excellent schools.

Ok

BC was on the list the first year and fell off. I think it might be because they admit more than 50 percent test optional.
Anonymous
If a school is test optional, it’s less convincing to me they have anything to do with “ivy”.
Anonymous
ok these are all great schools obviously but they're REACHES for most kids!

some are more reachy than others I guess. but I was hoping for more targets, not just more elite, reachy, hard to get in schools.

UVA, Notre Dame, Tufts, Northwestern, Carnegie Mellon, Vandy, Michigan etc. are all REACHES or even high reaches for most.

I just can’t figure out Case. Does it fit with the other schools?

They don’t play the admissions game but the end result is as good.
