Economy to Europe

Meh - eat a meal, board, put on your neck pillow and mask if you must, I have neither, and go to sleep. Some use meds (one of our kids goes to sleep with a dose of benadryl, the other gets hyper from it). Some people take meds to sleep and some have a glass of wine. The long and the short of it, some people sleep and some people don't.

I can't sleep, but I find that just being in a deep, restful state does help a lot.

DS10 didn’t sleep during the overnight flight to Italy, and we all had a nap after arriving the hotel. We used the inflatable cubes when kids were toddler age ( but it was one slept on 2 seats while another on 2 cubes, very squashy though), you can try and it really depending on how much space you have in leg room, when most people want to lie down their seats.

I just want to commiserate. We’re taking our whole family (3 kids). Our last overnight flight was 3 years ago and it didn’t go well. For us, I think the key will be to let them know that it doesn’t matter if they sleep or not. We do have neck pillows, but my kids didn’t love them.

We have a hotel room that we will go to directly, take a morning nap and then do some outside sight-seeing.

I can’t sleep on a plane. On the handful of overseas flights I’ve taken, I find the adjustment arriving in Asia and the Middle East, which for me has always been an early evening arrival, much easier than arriving in the morning, in Europe. I’m usually in Economy, so a 12-14 hour flight to Asia is brutal, but arriving at dinner time and then going right to bed is so much better than sleepwalking through Europe on your first day.
