100%. Our DS has been at SYC for years. We have had at least five coaches and I have been close enough to observe another 5-7. One of them I would leave the club over but the rest have been good. And our DS loves the club. |
| This isn't commentary on SYC but I haven't seen any club develop my DC. I've seen them get way better skill wise using a trainer and then putting the work in on their own. The club pretty much just provides the level of comp during practice and a standard of play during games, this particular SYC age group checks both these boxes. But actually develop my DC? I don't even expect it at this point. It's been 5 years and almost every since tactical element of the game has come from me, not the club. And anyone that plays more soccer will get better. But development I think is a word that's very loosely thrown around to justify the pay to play nature of our system. |
It is interesting and unusual that in the 2014s SYC has Pre-MLS Next, Pre-MLS Next A, and Pre-MLS Next II SYC Pre-MLS Next won the top U13 division of ASK, SYC Pre-MLS Next A won the second U13 division of ASK, and SYC Pre-MLS Next II lost to SYC 2014 Blue in the final of the second U12 division of Arlington's tournament. SYC clearly has a strong cohort of 2014 boys! I am sure it will not be easy to get on the SYC U13 MLS Next team. I imagine the top kids who don't make it can walk on to other top NoVa teams. |
🤣 And that my friends is why SYC will stay SYC and the other clubs will continue to develop professionals. We would not okay for SYC if it were free. I am sorry. It is free. It’s called pickup. |
Trust me, they already have |
So is this just a weird thing with the 2014 year? Or does SYC always have dozens of u12 guys who are able to move onto MLs Next teams? |
Unusual age group talent would be a better way of saying it. No question their top two teams have talent for the moment. But puberty changes the equation |
| It is the first crop of the F8/IG from U9 or younger. They feed each other. |
Yeah...because they didn't make SYC top team. These clubs are just waiting for the SYC rejects. That's how they improve their roster's. What does that say about the competition? |
|
The 2014 group at SYC is the best around and getting stronger. You can complain about development and coaching...you can complain about kick ball...you can complain about "all they do is win". But what you really want to complain about is that you couldn't break into the roster if you tried. You say, "I wouldn't do it" but you've never been offered to.
If you can make it, training with and against that group every practice is worth ignoring the negatives. Any kid in that group is training outside of practice already so development will happen on multiple fronts. Forget about coaching and watch how competitive your training environment is. In other age groups there are teams around the DMV that have something similar...many of the top kids made it to one place. Their biggest crime is that they are good and win. Winning Team = no development Losing Team = "we are focused on development!" |
Sure, whatever you say. |
🙄 SYC wins = ✅ SYC 2014 kids practice against some of the most aggressive kids in their age group = ✅ SYC sends kids to DCU = ✅ SYC kids at DCU/SYC don’t go pro = ✅ Arlington, VDA, Achilles and BSC kids go pro regularly and attend better academies than DCU = ✅ If you actually think False 8 is preparing you are actually dumber than this post. Do me a favor because I hate that all of that DMV talent is wasted at SYC. Spend an extra week after MIC, go to any small Spanish academy and get the blueprint on how to develop. Bring it back and it will be the opposite of what SYC is doing which is why you win but have no player production. Your rep is only good at the 🇺🇸 water cooler, not in 🌎 futbol circles. |
But we are not in Spain. We are in America. What should they be doing differently? I'm not suggesting you are wrong just trying to understand how the negatives of SYC aren't the same at other large NoVa clubs. From what I can see they are all the same. SYC just has a stronger group of players (for now). |
