Even looking at ECNL, there is significant differentiation of talent within the same age group division. Just look at DCSC’s younger ECNL teams. The 2014’s are world beaters and the 2013’s are bottom third at best. The 2012’s have been solid since they were young, and anything older suffers from the years of neglect by the club.

Very hit or miss by BY. Our 2015s are also poor, bottom 1/3 of a watered down VPSL. No idea how BY to SY will change that though.

It looks like the school year reshuffle will, in some cases, completely upend teams. It’s fine, but many will get a total reset will happen making any backward looking comparisons worthless. The SY move does totally reset everything going forward

I am starting to see how much this sucks for my kid who is going from the middle to one of the youngest. When I came back to pick them up from one of the tryouts recently, I thought I was looking at a field of players a year older until I spotted my kid. I assume the big clubs have a lot of kids who can repeat an age group. My kid is tall, but skinny. A kid who has started to hit their growth spurt and has 30 pounds on them is going to be able to push him off the ball pretty easily. Now I feel like they will be lucky to hold their spot let alone move up a level.

Pussy.

Hope your hangover treats you well today 😊

The team is missing about 10-12 DC kids who play on Pre-MLS and Pre-ECNL teams in MD and VA. There are also about 3-4 other kids in the city on smaller clubs.

If DC Soccer can get their crap together to consolidate the talent in the city, the folks in MD and VA won't be laughing. It will not happen while my child plays but in 3-5 years, they could have something. We have over 20 futsal courts here in the city now, most connected to elementary schools. We have a lot of kids playing and the next few years will look different for the entities that can keep DC kids at home with quality coaching and no drama.

At the same time, I would not bet on them getting their stuff together either. This is a positive step for them. Let's see what they do with it.

Haha- my kid is graduating. We said the same thing when he was u-13. Hope is not a strategy.

Will the current DCSC ECNL RL teams become MLS Next II teams then? Or are they going to keep the ECNL RL teams and add MLS Next II teams at each age?

I live in DC and drive to the suburbs for my kiddos, including a 2014. I would love to have a better option in the city but still feels a long way away and probably too late for any of mine. I do hope they eventually get their act together though.

I don’t drink.

It’s a soft mentality you have. If you throw him into the breach and he gives it everything—even is the team loses and he gets crushed—then he has the chance to be special.

If he frets because Dad does, he’s already done.

You can't to both, you have to choose. Their "RL" teams will now be labeled "MLS Division 2 Team". Same kids, same talent, different badge.

I have a 2014 boy and agree with this. That team is strong. Have never understood why people make fun of this club but maybe the issues are at other age groups.

I wonder if RL will add anyone now that DCSC is leaving? Or will it just be yet another team that left RL?

Same here. Would be a dream to not have to take my 2014 all the way out to VA but such is life and I agree, the current DCSC 2014B team is totally legit.

If they can’t offer additional development and higher levels, these players will also head to other clubs. Maybe the younger players will benefit.

It's not about what they can't offer but the way DC soccer has evolved and why. It goes back to the start of the thread. If DCSC can get MLS Next 2 even, then maybe they can eventually get MLS Next 1/HG. The point is there is enough talent in the district to compete with any of the top suburban clubs. Someone just has to put it all together. The players are already there.

Did they officially announce this?

Agreed. My family and many other families who are currently on 270, 495, 395 and 66 will not benefit. It is a process. I hope DC Soccer or any other entity gets it together for the kids down the line because we have the talent in the district.

Does this mean girls are going GA/Aspire, or will they let them stay in RL?

They aren't allowed to keep teams in RL. If you do MLS Next B Team, you have to do GA or Aspire of the girls side.

So where does DCSC practice? Interested in the older groups (2010 and older). Thank you!
