This sounds like tge Federal Vacancies Act which doesn’t apply to most GS-15 or 15s.

I had to. I am sure many other actings do as well

Late to this post. Curious because I guess there is (or was) an OPM rule about limiting “acting” roles to a higher grade position to 120 days. Challenge here is that SO MANY 14s in my agency have been acting 15s for wayyyyy longer than 120 days. I guess the agency rules state that any role that extends beyond 120 days must be advertised and competed.

Can a waiver be had to extend those 120 days in reality?? Seems like nothing is being followed these days.

I think it was because I was acting as an SES since those positions have to have OPM ok to fill and it wasn’t as if I was being selected and put forth to OPM as the permanent candidate and acting while awaiting OPM’s blessing. I was just place holding while the powers to be figured out what they wanted to do with the position. In any event, the initial detail was for 120 and it was extended to 240 and then I was done and now someone else is acting for 120, likely to be 240.

For another question, I was not relieved of my regular duties and was in fact also absorbing the work of someone else who left the agency. I guess I’m “lucky” to only be doing that now.

It’s only 120 days if the acting role constituted a promotion.

I am currently in an acting role that was recently extended for the 3rd time. It’s all in my SF50, get notified by the system each time.

But it’s considered a lateral move (think “Advisor” to division direction w/o staff ➡️ deputy director of division with 100 people under me), so they can keep renewing me. My stress level is definitely way higher with staff answering to me!

When I was acting, they didn't backfill my old job but I could only do about half of it. A lot of things got back-burnered.

I have little faith in rules and standards with the current roster of politicals at my agency. They don’t listen at all.

Once you’re a 15 and a supervisor they can do whatever they want with you—it usually means doing several jobs at once, or trying to, because we can’t backfill anything. Basically working like an SES without SES pay. I am sure there are rules about that, but no one cares.
