There are plenty of doctors, just no one the average American would want to see. I know I’m not the only one that looks at a doctors credentials and skip over any that have a degree from an unknown school or one from the Caribbean.
On the flipside, I took my dd to a pediatric practice that had 3 Harvard grads and one from Cornell. Saw all of them before moving on. They were terrible. I told one in private to subtly bring up my dd’s weight problem and the first thing she told her was “your mom is worried about your weight gain”. Another one ignored a symptom that was later diagnosed as something serious, and the 3rd one couldn’t have been more disinterested. So we have a lot of doctors but many of them are not that good. |
| It's not just medical school slots, it's residency slots. There just aren't enough to train the number of doctors we need. They're increasing them gradually, but they were frozen for years. They're supported by Medicare so it takes legislation to do this. |
Why? Mine is great. |
My aunt is an emergency room NP. She has a great salary and a beautiful new Infiniti, but I can assure you she does not have a heart. |
This poster needs to be ignored. They are either delusional about the reality of foreign-trained doctors in the US, or is a foreign-trained doctor and is defensive. |
You’d be surprised. There are far less DO schools, and many are just competitive as MD. However, some of the carribean med schools are test optional or easy to get into. Will you get a residency? Maybe not. But half of the MAHA docs never passed their boards or did a residency so…,

Because I'm not your browbeaten child or your slave, so you can do your own research or not. |
Cool, cool. Glad we established that you have zero idea what you're talking about and that no one should listen to your ignorant nonsense. |
because we can't have incompetant doctors, lives are at stake. |
You don't need an Ivy League educated physician to get your kid to stop stuffing her face. |
Please tell your kid to go to another country for med school. People are so sure they have a better way like to hear themselves talk. |
| There's a shortage because it's hard. |
One of my doctors went to school in the Caribbean. She’s fantastic. I never thought to check credentials until I kept seeing it on here and looked up my regular doctors and specialists. At that point, I had been going to her for years. I’m glad I didn’t use this as a reason to never make that initial appointment. |
Nope- factually incorrect!! In the 80s Congress and the AMA decided that there were wayyy too many doctors and purposefully decided to create this shortage- look it up! |
