Everyone else. Duke kids were obnoxious and stuck to themselves while kids from all the other colleges got along. |
Ok, but any humans? |

From our private high school, at least one or two get in a year. Exclusively ED admits. Some hooked (legacy), but ALL are top of their class (probably 5%, minimum 10%), highly academically motivated, highest rigor across the board, and almost all, were very active on the robotics team.
Duke is what the Ivy league was 30 years ago, now that the Ivy league is more interested in FGLI and URM and athletes. |
The top ranked kids at our private still select the Ivies over Duke. |
Even Cornell and Columbia? |
Yes |
| My DC was accepted to Duke last year RD (applied undecided) from a top FCPS. Blue Devil Day was fun, but ended up at HYPSM |
| I find it funny how much this forum reveres Duke because of how few they take from the DMV. Perceptions of schools on here are just driven by perceived exclusivity, and it's gross. |
Only legacies from our HS |
Please keep politics out of the College subforum. Take it to the politics one if you want to discuss. |
It's not just perceived exclusivity. Duke has become known as a well rounded college experience where kids can have fun, attend sports games and also get a top notch education, while places like Princeton and Yale are known for being competitive and grindy with kids competing with another to get into clubs. A lot of students (and their parents) want their kids to be in a more well rounded college environment and the weather helps too. Also, with the protests, lots of Jewish parents have been souring on schools like Columbia and Harvard. My Asian American, STEM-loving DD with very high stats applied ED to Duke and was deferred. |
| Duke academics is nothing to write home about |
| DS also chose a top 3 Ivy over Duke but it was a tough decision. |
Don't think it's a feeder per se, and it's a public boarding school with kids from the whole State (acceptances are done by region). Certainly Duke gets some kids from NCSSM, but the students there get a guaranteed acceptance to a UNC system school and free tuition, so many end up at NC State and UNC. |
The only spectator sport at Duke is basketball and the social part ended about a decade ago. |
