| It was appealing for us because my kid got into Miami University (Farmer school of Business) with a Presidential Scholarship but ultimately, she thought it was too remote and prefers to go to a bigger, more spirited Big 10 School. |
This is the below average logic I was talking about. |
| Kids love it. It’s a beautiful campus. As it is sorta in the middle of nowhere, life is very school focused. |
I think the JMU comparison is a pretty good one. JMU is a bit more "big time sports" (yes, I realize that Miami has a good basketball team against the other barely D1 schools against whom they've played) and seems to have a bit more of a party vibe. Reputationally, I think it's fair to put them in the same sentence. |

Miami gets a bad look because they have very few graduate programs. It is a very strong undergraduate university where students learn and have fun- a combination which is dangerous to the pseudo-intellectual snobs of the DMV. Ironically, it produces many high income earning graduates because their social IQ sadly may be higher than their desire to read Kant, pontificate ideas, or have a PhD. Something that matters in real life. Sadly arrogance and ignorance go hand in hand, and
the sophomoric comments about Miami reaffirms this. |

If you're looking at Miami of Ohio, you might also want to look at Ohio U (not Ohio State).
It also has the idyllic campus, but is more progressive and less bro-ish overall. |
In other words LAME. Go to Miami if you're picking between these two schools. |
Is that you, Greek God foyine girls guy? You've been MIA for a while. Did work get busy? |
| Has something changed drastically in the past 20 years? Because this (and OU) was the school that all the B-students from my middle of the road suburban Ohio public high school went to when I was a kid. It was the A-students' fall back school. |
I grew up in Ohio in the 90s, there was (and still is) a large Jewish population in the state. |
Yes the oldest reformed Rabbinical school in America is in Cincinnati, for those who have no idea life does exist off the east coast. |
| Unbeatable campus. |
| Happy college kids at Miami. So many campuses today filled with unhappy young adults. |
I'm the metro Detroit poster and everyone calls it Miami of Ohio around here. I just asked my hs senior what she calls the school that her friend XXX is going to and she said Miami of Ohio. Maybe it's because we have a significant amount of kids who apply to the University of Miami in Florida? I honestly have never heard anyone say Miami University even the kids who attend there. |
I'm just saying that "Miami was a university when Florida belonged to Spain" is on T-shirts everywhere in Oxford. But, yes, I realize this. It was named for the Miami Indians, most of whom were moved to Oklahoma (although there is a sizeable contingent of Miami tribe people across the border in Indiana). |
