Not to be snide, but all of the universities except perhaps Liberty are very comfortable for a kid like your kid that fits into all of those desireable groups, including red state colleges.

Every college ranges from libertarian don't give a fig over what you do as long as you don't interfere with me, to over the top affirming, to completely elevating anyone who fits into those groups.

None of those labels are seen as anything but a positive, or at least neutral, at every campus in this country.

Rose Hulman, she would probably get 25-30,000 in merit. My daughter got 25,000 with lower sat score. As a parent I was impressed with the support and services.

Agree with this take. Avoid Liberty and BYU and any college that does not allow your kid to fulfill premed requirements (e.g., art schools) but otherwise the entire universe of colleges is available for your kid.

Possible safety schools: Fordham and Pitt. What would be some other decent safety or even target schools? It would be great if (1) there's some kind of merit aid; and (2) near a major airport).

We live in a Red state and she doesn't like our state. I don't know if it's wise to pay $90K for some of the safeties that don't offer merit aid. GPA is 4.0; SAT is 1520; extracurriculars with focus on gender studies/public health type, community-oriented theme.

School counselor is mentioning as safeties: Skidmore and Connecticut College, but these schools do not seem particularly diverse, racially.

DD is at a girls' private so not loving as safeties: Bryn Mawr and Barnard. Oberlin is too artsy and maybe Wesleyan also too artsy.

You also need some targets. How about Rochester, Lehigh

Not at all a safety, but it sounds like she would like Smith College very much!

Rhodes is the whitest school mentioned so far. And the alma mater for Amy Coney Barrett, who is anti-LGBTQ AND anti-women AND anti-medical science (i.e. doctors who want to provide the best care for their patients).
