Ideas to celebrate first period?

Anonymous
Certainly nothing to celebrate. Periods suck. The best thing you can do for her is provide information, commiseration, and resources such as pads, tampons, swimsuit, period underwear, ibuprofen if needed, etc.

I don’t really see a way to make the experience “positive.”

+1. My son finds out that women have to go through monthly periods and the tortune of pregancy/delivery. He is glad that he is a boy, not a girl. He feels so sorry for his little sister.

Why is it something to celebrate?

My mom tried to do a celebration and give me this bracelet when I got mine and it was cringey at the time, but I kind of get it now. I would do something low key like go out to lunch.

When my daughter got her period we went out for a smoothie. Not exactly a celebration, but just some positive association with it.

Agree. I mean objectively it sucks each month. So let’s make it a little better.

We had ice cream sundaes, watched movies in bed, and I ordered a necklace that I knew she wanted. Nothing huge but also it’s life and we aren’t going to be sad or ashamed about it.

+1 we mourned when first period happened. Sad day and made their favorite comfort food.

Spa day
Nice dinner
Ask her
Japan and other cultures that celebrate this, much better than the shaming alternative

Many women don't think it's sucks. I love it. I feel so connected to the earth and powerful. I bleed but I do not die. It makes me feel renewed every month
