How much are you spending on flights and hotels for spring break?

Don't fret. One day you'll break out of the middle class. Just work hard and stay focused.

I've been looking for months and have pretty much given up. We are going to New York. I couldn't find anything for under 10k for the four of us for five days, and given that I'm a fed and my son is headed to college soon, I just couldn't stomach it. Still looking though.

Headed to Europe for skiing. Flights were 2.5k total (3 + infant, around $750 per person other than infant). Hotel was 2.5k. Food will probably be 2k. Skiing will be ~1.5k including ski school for a couple days (so much cheaper than the US…). Transit to and from airport about $400.

So about 9k total.

Nothing. Sports. Ugh.

Wow, that’s a ganga. Where did you get a price like that?

I used points to offset the flight costs. I paid cash for 3 flights and used points for 2. For the resort, I have refundable bookings for a few different resorts that I made during Black Friday sales and I check periodically to see if the prices go down. I just saved $500 a couple of weeks ago by calling Costco when the price went down for one of the resorts I booked. The price went up again after and is now much more than what I reserved. I’ll make a final decision on the resort by the cancellation date based on the final price and current reviews.

You paid $4500 for each ticket to Belize?? That seems….high for an economy ticket.

Has to be $1500 each which is more reasonable. Unless going first class.

Florida and Costa Rica. $1,000 for flights for the 4 of us after points. Staying with family in Florida then flying to Costa Rica out of Miami. Hotel is about $4000 for 6 nights. Rental car is $350 and food will probably be $2,000. So like $7000 including food.

Would you share which ski resort? We have been wanting to do this. And with those flights I assume you are flying basic economy?

Pricing out tickets and hotel for NM, probably mostly in Santa Fe. Hoping to stay under $5k.

We spend between $10,000 and $15,000 all-in for spring break for a family of four. We typically get two hotel rooms and do some private excursions, but are far from luxury travelers.

We have winter break and spring break. Winter break I was indecisive and booked too late, and now am the victim of dynamic pricing. We're paying $6200 for 4 nights in Mexico. There definitely are cheaper options, but these days I'm only doing resorts with suites, plunge pools, and good kid's clubs. Flights themselves are $300 each, so at least there's that. This is for 3 people.

For spring break, I'm looking to do Utah national parks, so that will be a lot more frugal.

To avoid last-minute pricing spikes again, I'm already planning winter break 2027, and will book that as soon as the calendar opens.

You’re spending 1100 a night to stay in Florida!?

Not that PP but we are paying like 1800 a night for a beachfront room in key largo. I’m not posirve we’re going to do this but I booked it many many months ago as a placeholder. If you want to be right on beach with beachfront room, it’s expensive. We stayed at this hotel during the pandemic and liked it so I admit I didn’t shop around a lot.

That’s crazy.

DP here. It is crazy that luxury beachfront hotels cost that now, true. But whether you pay it in Florida, Hawaii, or the Caribbean is just personal preference. Some people prefer the shorter flight, and not leaving the US. Don’t need passports or international health insurance. Our Grand Cayman hotel was booked on points but if we paid cash it was over $2k/night that week.
