Rising 9th graders

Anonymous
My kid volunteered at an animal rescue, took health to get it out of the way, participated in the summer sports league prep offered by the school for their fall sport, hung with friends and went on vacation.

This year between 9/10 they will be working a couple days a week and the same as above.

My current 9th grader worked at a paid job last summer. He’s wanted to work a job for years, so it was great to finally have the opportunity.

Thanks. What kind of job pays 14 year olds?

If you are a resident of DC, this - https://summerjobs.dc.gov/
It should be updated in a few weeks for this summer.

Unless you're thinking "what can my kid do before starting high school to help with college admissions?"

In which case you're nuts.

Uh this. Please tell me you aren’t expecting your 8th grader to be doing something for college apps this summer.

Two weeks with his Scout Troop backpacking at Philmont, one week of regular Scout camp, and a week at Grandma’s are what we have scheduled. There will be a week of family vacation in there. The rest of the time will be down time at home. He will probably be planning his eagle project.

Mine is in 9th grade now, but last summer she did:

2 weeks of sleep away camp
2 weeks of a sport camp (not full day)
1 week of rock climbing camp
a mini road trip to visit a few colleges
family vacations for the remaining weeks

Your kid started college visits before starting high school? I’m sure that was helpful.
