Elementary School-Aged Kids
+1. And I could add a few. Or several… |

For sure. A zealous atheist would never have these books in the house. |
I have a bunch. I think I've only read some of the earlier ones. I don't remember any religious references. |
Maybe, but this is about the age where kids will start asking about religion. |
None of this is remotely biblical or Christian. |

DK Eyewitness series of kids books has a book on "Religion". Inside is a reasonable survey of several major religions around the world.
Even if OP objects to religious practices, it would benefit DC to have awareness that (a) religions exist and (b) very basic information about the most common 4-6 religions. |
+1 Someone claiming a particular church or pastor is Christian does not always mean the claim is valid. Separately, there are a wide range of different denominations within mainstream Christianity - with wide variation in both beliefs and practices. |
You haven't read the Bible then. |

I was raised mass every Sunday religious (I'm even confirmed) but am atheist, spouse came from a Christmas and Easter church family and is more agnostic. I've given my son a run down in various religious practices (like when we attended a baptism). I left the option open to attend church for Christmas if he wanted.
I try to be laid back about it. I also want to give some cultural literacy (I've picked this up with my spouse, he doesn't get references a lot). I'd like to find some balance to cultural education. Me having to go every Sunday didn't really make me religious at all, just kind of miserable and bored. I used to read the salacious parts of the Bible when I was a teen during the homily. |
Some of the more liberal Christian denominations try to ignore the inconvenient parts of the Bible. Others just hide those parts until you're older, after you've already been indoctrinated. If you're going to expose someone to religion, don't whitewash it. That's basically what cults do. |
| The Berenstain bears aren't Jewish?! |
IKR?!? |
| DEAR OP- the Bernstein bears faith based stories are clearly labeled with a logo on the front cover. A faith story or something like that. I avoided those but I have no problem with religion and I love the community that church can offer you. Find one in your area that you feel accepted at, take her one day. For me faith offers community and set of guidelines to grow and be good. Nothing negative needs to come from it. |
