OP here. Well, these comments really went off the rails; I don't even know what you guys are talking about. Who is talking about black diamonds? We've never even skied before! LOL
Here's what ultimately happened: we left the house at 7am on Dec 25, got there at 8:30, got our equipment, and took a class at 10am. There were maybe 30 (maybe more) people who wanted to take classes at that time, so we ended up with someone who should only have been shadowing a teacher. By the end of the 2-hour lesson, my husband and I couldn't stop or turn, so one of the teachers (we joined one of the other classes towards the end of our class) told us to come back to the 1pm class. Our family was the only one from the group that did this. By the end of the 2nd class, my husband and I weren't really any better, but our sons were. After the second class, our boys were better, and they were ultimately able to go on the bunny slopes several times. I tried the Magic Carpet (it's a smaller lift for the bottom 1/3 of the bunny slope) and had to throw myself to the ground 3 times so as not to fall into the ditch under the lift. It was probably hilarious to watch. My husband's feet hurt after the second class, so he went inside and warmed up. The good thing about the classes was that they took us on the lift in the first class, so we all figured out how to use it (and not just fall off and pile up at the top). My sons and I stretched when we got home, and we're all doing ok. Driving home was fine. My sons enjoyed the skiing, and I think my husband and I might try the Wisp classes that someone posted above. I did tell my husband that we should have tried this when we were in our 20s, but we didn't have the money for it then. Oh well. We'll see if we do it again (maybe in February) and if we get any better. I'm thankful for snow pants and hopeful that light-fluffy snow will make stopping easier. It was quite slushy, and that might have been why my husband and I had so much trouble stopping. It actually wasn't that crowded and the lift for the bunny slopes was mostly empty. Not that it mattered for my husband or me, haha. By 3pm it was almost empty there. If anyone has recommendations for specific learn-to-ski packages that we should look into (beyond the one at Wisp), please post it here. I'm happy to try skiing again! |
| Your positive attitude will help, OP. Good for you for being up for more skiing! |

Omg. Your update has me cracking up OP!
Definitely separate from the kids for lessons at this point. It’s going to be a LOT harder for the adults to pick it up than the kids. They should be skiing blues after 2-4 days and you’ll likely still be going at a snails pace. Hopefully someone here can give you more specific advice. My only advice is to do whatever you can to get invited to stay for free with someone out west! It’s pricey, but a lot easier to learn as long as the snow is decent because there’s no need to be afraid of falling when the snow is soft. |
