Holiday tips for mail delivery and trash pickup

I tip all of them $20/person. It’s totally worth it. They pick up things of mine they’re not supposed to, will mail my packages without me scheduling, etc.

That's not allowed by USPS. You can give a gift worth $20 or less but not cash or cash equivalents like gift cards. If you gift more than once, the max per customer is $50 per year.

I don't GAF. These people are very hard workers.

Where do you live?

We are in Arlington and have had the same mail carrier for 10+ years.

Our trash folks are pretty consistent too.

I gave mine $20.

I gift my mail carrier (who is amazing) a $20 gift card to a place that they'd likely run into on their route - think 7-11, McDonalds, Starbucks, etc. Maybe Amazon if I put things off too long.

The rules say they can only take $20 and in non-cash or non-cash equivalent form (Visa gift cards aren't allowed). I'd give (much) more if it were allowed but I don't want to put the carrier in a bad spot by breaking the rules (and they are the type who I actually think follows the rules).

I don't do anything for the trash people; I have no personal relationship with them, I don't know if they're the same people week-to-week, and our trash collection has been pretty haphazard this year.

This.

I tip the trash collectors. Not the mail deliverer anymore since the person assigned changes a lot.

We hand $20 to each trash and recycling guy. Nothing for mail carrier but we should.
