Definitely try this first. I used to have this reaction to a certain toothpaste. It cleared up as soon as I switched. |
| Fungal. |
| I have started nightly applying aquaphor on and around my lips even when this isn't happening. It's the only thing that works to prevent it . I do wonder if drooling during sleep was irritating my skin and the aquaphor prevents that |

Medicated Blistex helps painful cracks, but I think it's one of those items that can cause rebound problems.
I'd recommend trying O'Keefe's lip balm in the orange tube. |
| Estée Lauder 8 hour cream |
| Ack I meant Elizabeth Arden |
| That neosporin lip protection night time balm is awesome for this. |
| Stop the ointments. Neosporin especially can inhibit healing. |
If it is a bacterial infection OP needs an antibiotic ointment. Bactoban works for me. Neosporin does not work for the type of bacteria common in this and can trigger an allergic reaction. |
Id get this too and realized it was my toothpaste (Colgate total was the worst for me) My dentist said some toothpastes can cause it. Try switching for a few days to another brand than what you use and see if it helps. |
| Definitely try the Vitamin B and Iron supplementation. |
| + 1 to B vitamins |
| I had this very severely for years. Finally, I had skin patch testing to determine my allergies. I found out I am allergic to cinnamon and after removing cinnamon from my diet the mouth cuts have not returned. I've cheated with the seasonal pumpkin pie and the mouth cut returned! From my experience, aquaphor is way better than vaseline, but definitely figure out the cause of the cuts! Good luck. |
| Vitamin B, Lotrimin, and Neosporin help this for me. |
| Vitamins and red meat. |
