| This absolutely should be a NFT meet to limit the entries. Between this and Turkey Claus that would cover the PVS swimmers that won’t qualify for KLI or RMSCs holiday meet. |
| Yes. It’s not at all limited. There were kids who swam at Christmas champs who are swimming the same strokes next weekend at Riley eaten. I have no idea why anyone would want to do this but Christmas champs needs to add the same language as Turkey clause, nft times and you can’t swim at all if you have more than 4 cuts for ncap or Riley eaten. |
I concur with this 100%. I think coaches who allowed this really need to reflect on how they missed opportunities to prioritize kids who didn’t have cuts for the other meets. By letting swimmers with multiple qualifying meets do the same strokes again, it effectively took away finals opportunities from kids on their own clubs who could have gained valuable experience. Coaches from multiple teams allowed this at Champs yesterday. Just think about the swimmers who placed in the 21–25 range — many of them might have had a real shot at finals if those lanes were available. That experience matters, especially for developing swimmers who don’t yet have those cuts. Some food for thought. |
That is ridiculous. Serious. Clubs generally only allow swimmers to swim one Winter champs meet. (I have seen a kid swim both but in those cases they are swimming a one event at the second meet) Allowing swimmers to double up is not fair. And will force either club number limitations or NST/NFT times for the meet. |
1. We're connected with more than one club and I've seen this go both ways. 2. That is exactly what _should_ happen with Christmas Champs. That meet cannot be both things at once: it can't challenge the fast kids at a top level while also providing great opportunities for the slower kids. But many kids are not allowed to skip meets to which they are assigned, and that's a club problem. If the meet changes its policies, problem solved. Make CC NFT. |
| 100% agree - Christmas Champs should be a NFT meet like Turkey Claus. Multiple clubs had kids swimming at CC that have cut times for Riley Eaton and KLI. It would be nice for kids who don't have those times to have a chance at finals. |
| We were there last year and forgot what a disaster it was, so we ended up going this year as well. Definitely as bad or worse this time around. Very unsafe for swimmers and spectators, and frankly, not fun for anyone (we asked). |
Hydra, though a smaller team also has multiple swimmers who did Christmas Champs and will do Riley Eaton this coming weekend. Massive coaching fail. Teams should not allow 2 winter champs, period. |
| Changing meet to NFT is great idea |
| CC does need to be NFT rather than NST. There are enough NST opportunities already, but not NFT. |
| Everything about club swimming is a money grab. It starts with the clubs and coaches -- in every sport -- would need to create a culture where THIS should be the most important thing to you and your family at all costs because it's the only way they can support themselves with a job. |
+1. My kid swam finals at Turkey Champs and would not be able to if not for the NFT meet requirements. That being said, I heard from others that NCAP allowed their swimmers to do both meets if swimmers are swimming less than 4 events at the Katie Ledecky meet. |
If you're referencing Turkey Claus, that's part of the Meet Announcement. "Swimmers qualifying for the 2025 NCAP Invitational Meet OR The 2025 RMSC Holiday Invitational in FOUR (4) or more events are not eligible for this meet." NCAP has the largest contingent group of swimmers to Turkey Claus after the host team, Machine. RMSC also has a large number of swimmers at Turkey Claus. |
From 2025 Turkey Claus Meet Announcement: “Swimmers qualifying for the 2025 NCAP Invitational Meet OR The 2025 RMSC Holiday Invitational in FOUR (4) or more events are not eligible for this meet.” |
Terrible take. Hard to say this is a massive coaching for a club sending swimmers to meet that wasn’t restricted. The massive fail lies with SA and PVS, who sanctioned this fiasco. |
