JMU 36 UVA 35 2023 |
THIS. |
| Duke played a much tougher schedule than JMU. And JMU lost to Louisville. Duke>JMU. |
I can't believe we are talking about schools like JMU and Duke, let alone UVA. None of them should have been in consideration for the CFP b/c they just don't have the same caliber teams as the schools in other conferences. They can and do deserve to win their own conference, but putting them up against B10 and SEC schools is likely going to end up in very lopsided game. I know how excited UVA was this year about football, but they only played 1 ranked team all season. Let them play Oklahoma, Oregon, Michigan, Ole Miss and see how that goes (before the CFP). The automatic bid for 5 conference championships brought schools like JMU into the playoffs. It's nice for conferences that don't get represented, but it's unfair to all the SEC & B10 that are higher ranked, but get bumped for the 25th team. Between this nonsense and the coaching change window, someone needs to step in and fix this mess. |
| Duke over UVA? JMU top 25 but not UVA? What's going on Cavaliers? |
UVA had a good year by their historical standards. They just came up short in overtime. Despite the expansion of the playoffs, there are still a lot of question marks. It will be interesting to see how JMU does on the road at Oregon. That is a big step up in level in competition from facing Troy at home for the conference championship. But it is probably a big step up from what Duke or UVA faced this season as well. Any of those teams would be a big underdog to not only Notre Dame, which was perhaps the last power team out, but also to a team like Texas, which had losses to two of the four teams getting byes (Ohio State and Georgia) among its 3 losses. |
| Duke won the ACC championship they should get the auto bid |
There is no auto bid for the ACC. It is the five highest ranked conference champions and Duke is not one of those. |
