| If you get out of your NYC bubble you will see there are really amazing schools in lots of different places. |
| Breaking news...people seek out a different experience than op. |
| Back in the 1990s they had to add barriers in library so people would stop jumping and land on the check out desk in the lobby. Great school if you are independent, strong willed, and mature. Otherwise your DC will fade into oblivion. You need a certain type of personality to survive. Your kid better be pretty worldly or it will not be for them. |
Yes, it is popular here in CA. My son was admitted ED. My guess about the DMV hostility here is that it is not an elite STEM school and a lot of people who post here prioritize STEM. If my kid were STEM, I would have preferred a public as well like a UC or Cal Poly instead if not admitted to a T20-25. NYU is open about being a diverse, international urban school that is TO. There is a higher percentage of internationals at NYU than domestic white students All of this may not play well with DMV people who want a more controlled, traditional campus in a less challenging setting with an emphasis on high performing kids like theirs. NYU has an eclectic social sciences and humanities curriculum with students able to flexibly develop their majors in addition the elite Tisch and Stern programs. NYU is polarizing, some love it, some hate it. It depends on what is best for your kid. |
| I just loved having a girlfriend’s whose roommates dad was a film actor. Great access to bars, Tunnel, and a nice house on Georgica Pond. It is the inverse of the film Metropolitan. |
We have a few neighbors whose kids are there now. We live close-in urban. Kids are used to the city. |
| Kid is at Stern, definitely finding it challenging. Having said that, NYU is more than just Stern, its got Tisch, math, philosophy programs that are very good. Followed by some low key programs that drags NYU to 30ish USnews status. Plus for some the lack of campus is a high turn off. |
The drag down is Gallatin. |
Oh, does GW have similarly prestigious programs like Stern ,Tisch? And has sub 10% acceptance rate overall because its so unappealing? |
100+ |
| Gallatin is not Brown. They should get rid of it but have no choice at this point. |
If NYU was ranking conscious, it should keep their tisch, stern, cas, tandon and nursing programs only....get rid of liberal core, Gallatin, stienhardt etc.. |

It's just expensive. My child was approached by a coach and went for a tour and chat, and there was no answer too how kids with HHI between 100k and 300K can afford it. There's no team group house in Manhattan, no secret merit money-- it's just 100K per year.
If we were richer or poorer, we'd have been all for it. |
It advertises free tuition for lower income families which is a big reason why it gets so many applications. For a full-pay family, there isn’t anything that another university can’t offer except location. |
| Just step over the homeless passed-out on the sidewalk. |
