The Correspondent

It was very well written but I am annoyed about the twist at the end.

I just finished the book today. I was unprepared for how much I would love this book and how many tissues I would need. The letters and the general talk of life and aging reminded me so much of my beautiful mom. When my mom died, she left behind boxes of letters, reading through them gave me so much context into her life and who she was. I thought this book was beautifully done.

I enjoyed Sybil's character and this book gave me so much to think about.

I have been waiting to open this thread until I had read the book. I thought it was pretty good. As literature, probably 4 stars out of 5. I preferred 84 Charing Cross Road which is mentioned in The Correspondent. One of the things I found unrealistic is that people would really respond to her letters with letters. People just stopped writing letters cold when email came along. So, I'm not sure I believe this going all the way into 2017 or so.

Overdrive tells me it will be available to me in 59 weeks, lol.

I loved it- was surprised at how much. The style of reading leaders and emails took a little bit to get used to but the main character was so well done, she will stay with me.

Sybil was imperfectly perfect. A complicated human. Reading this made me cognizant of how all of us are.

How is the audiobook version? I think that wait is (slightly) shorter on Libby.

Excellent. Especially being it’s in epistolary format, one really hears Sybil’s voice, so to speak.

DP but I guess her more direct involvement in it, although I would forgive her...it was a freak accident.

Similar for me. One library says at least six months wait, with 84 people waiting per copy. The other says 4 people waiting per copy.
I guess I will check out the book in 2027.

I'm a big library lover, but do yourself a favor... go to an independent book store and spend the money on this book. Pass it along when you're done. Enjoy.

Ah ok. I thought it was a good book but weird that it was a HUGE wait. It wasn't that good. I gave it 3/5 stars.

Having just finished (loved it) I would caution to not discuss the twist.
