MCPS to DCPS

So if OP has $60k+ a year for middle and high school, then sure, move IB for Mann. But as PPs have said, moving into DC then back out for middle school is the talk of a toddler parent that has no idea what will will be important to their child in 7 years.

I don't know why OP would move from MoCo to DC. Just pay for private if you have that much $$.

For MS and HS, we are open to private school or relocating back to MoCo.

that's just weird. don't make your kid make friends in DC and then move back to moco.

if you want to live in dc for other reasons, fine. but don't move there just for the schools.

Anonymous wrote:OP, you're being dumb. The bottom line is that people make do in DC when it comes to public schools, including elementary, but that's about it. No one moves to DC from any suburban school district for the public schools at any level.

And the idea of moving back to MD after moving to DC for elementary schools is preposterous.

If you can afford to move to one of the "top" DC elementary school districts you can afford to move to a better MC one. Just do that instead and stop being silly.

Agreed. PP is being incredibly myopic, particularly because there's no "bad" ES in-bounds for BCC. Based on context clues, I'm guessing they are zoned for either Rock Creek Forest or Rosemary Hills, both of which are perfectly lovely and well-regarded.

Yes, they are bigger than Mann, but I think OP is failing to see their child as a whole human whose relationships matter. Planning to move for six years and then move again ignores all of the relationships that the child will build in ES, including at extracurricular activities. Scouts, soccer, gymnastics, whatever.

The only Silver Spring ES that is zoned to B-CC is Rosemary Hills. It’s a focus school for K-2 that then splits to Chevy Chase ES and North Chevy ES. These are all good schools.

I visited public schools in both Montgomery county and NW DC before we bought a house. Liked the schools in DC better so bought a house there. No regrets.

DCPS MS like Deal and Hardy are GREAT!

I talked to a colleague who has kids at Pyle MS, and he convinced me that DCPS has a much better handle on bullying that MCPS does.
