Do an iron chef like challenge with each day a different family member making a meal with the ingredients. Pbjs or similar for lunch. Cereal for breakfast. I’m not a planner, so I feel like I/we do this in our house without the fun tv show idea/natration.

Do you know anyone with a Costco membership? You could get two gallons of milk for around $5, a 6 lb bag of frozen chicken tenderloins or thighs for under $20, double loaves of bread for 6, 18 eggs for 6.

I have on hand in the house basic pantry supplies but don't have a fully stocked freezer or anything like that to pull from.

I know from that $100 I need to buy 1 more gallon milk, and likely another dozen eggs and some sandwich bread, for sure. I'm pretty set for breakfast and coffee, fortunately.

Just inventoried and this is what I have to work with. Help me figure out what to buy for the week to get me to Friday. Needs to include lunch, dinner and snacks. Definitely need more vegetables. Don't have any bread, bagels, english muffins, etc.

1 LB jumbo shrimp (unpeeled)
1 LB pork chops (thin, bone in)
1 dozen eggs

onions (lots)
carrots (a few)
celery (1 clump)
garlic (plenty)
ginger (small knob)
limes (8)
potatoes - about 2 lbs
1 bag spinach
some parsley
apples
naval oranges
bag fresh cranberries

bread crumbs
olive oil
canola oil
mayo
old-fashioned oats
old-fashioned grits
bag of granola
rice noodles
macaroni 2 boxes
spaghetti 2 pounds
soy sauce
oyster sauce
coffee- enough for the week
bag of popcorn (kernels)
peanut butter
Jams and jellies
walnuts
Box pancake/waffle mix

Canned tomatoes 2
Canned black beans 2
Canned chickpeas 2
1 jar prepared pasta sauce
Canned tuna, salmon several
Cream of chicken soup 1
Cream of mushroom soup 1
Better than Boulion - chicken flavor
basic spices, sugar, white flour, corn flour

Sounds like News4 Susan Hogan posts here. Her segment on groceries for under $150

(And yeah, that only gets me to Wednesday but I'm hoping for a day of leftovers, and then probably a day of breakfast for dinner. We ate the shrimp last night.)

Great job OP!! I was hoping you'd check back in. Your menu sounds great!

And I hope that your budget constraints have some relief now.

Thank you!

This was such a great $5.00 dinner (because I had all the ingredients already except the ham hock, and I found 2 for $5 so I froze the other one.) Will definitely make it again!

Yes - I freed up some cash, and hopefully with some new menu ideas, I can stop spending so much money on food. I typically spend a lot more at the grocery store weekly, and I certainly shouldn't! I do have a lot of pantry items on hand, but just don't tend to cook them because "I'm too busy".

Way to go, OP!! You inspired me to Mae breakfast for dinner and a couple miscellaneous pastas over the past week!
