Black 6%
Asian 12%
Latinx 16%
Multiracial 11%
White 40%
Did not report 6%
International 10%

Note: most internationals are Asian, most do not reports are Asian, and many of the multiracial category.

What everyone seems to be missing as far as the white percentage here is it means:

- Amherst’s class is now 60% BIPOCs.

That is really the only meaningful takeaway here.

Multi racial would also likely be partially white.

No it doesn't. This doesn't include the international population. We only know that Amherst is 34% domestic students of color.

How can you be certain they are Asian? Is that merely a guess?

Very few international Asian. Also not attractive to tech immigrants' kids. LACs are mostly for whites and third or fourth generation Asians. The LAC whiners on DCUM are just whites.

This is just not accurate for the class of 2029. I am a parent and the international first years are definitely majority Asian, including many athletes.

You are correct that the top SLACs aren't attractive to tech immigrant families, but that is due to a lack of awareness. I live in the bay area and as awareness grows it is changing, especially for those looking for medical careers. The Val at a top private last year turned down UCLA and UCB for Williams last year. Another top 10 kid in the class chose Middelbury over the same schools. Both are looking to med school.

Big Deal. They had $$ and wanted to experience a new part of the country. Williams is isolated in no man’s land with half athletes. You need a 3.994 to be cum laude at UCLA. Easier to stand out at Williams.

I don't understand why the whiners whine. If they don't like it, they can go to majority white lacs, washington & lee, davidson, there are plenty of those. Why SWAP only?

not really. "majority minority" is a phrase that's been around for 20 years

I had the same question about “Latinx” students. Are white-latinos included in Latinx or not ?

After a one-month delay, the college has released demographic data for the class of 2029. This year’s class sets a new record for the percentage of first-generation students and students from rural towns. The percentage of Black and African American and Latinx students also doubled.

Other than ones who are wealthy or aid eligible poor, no one else can pay their ridiculous cost of attendance. Ours was accepted as full pay and our upper middle class household just couldn't afford it.

*to be fair they do have generous need base aid and eligible middle class can get great aid packages.

+1 We earned 330K+ at the time of application and received good aid. SLACs and Ivies are known for generous aid packages.

Doesn't explain the decline in asian American students.

Asian students are minority there and often skeptical about segregation based on race, atheism and sexual orientation. It seems more international Asians and Indians than local ones. Also cost is an issue unless you get aid.

It depends on debt vs assets ratio. Ones who spend more and save less get different deal then ones who save more and spend frugally.

If you live large, buy a mansion on high interest and, don't put money in 529 and show loss on business, you'll get twice as much aid than someone earning the same on honest W2 but living simply and saving responsibly.
