Thoughts on Conn College?

You people are so goddamn stupid and useless. How about providing some information that’s useful? Even if it’s negative.

The combination of lazy and douche bag is not a good look.

What SLAC are better?

My kid is there. I think the campus is quite pretty, and it’s actually in a nice coastal area. It’s not as well-appointed as some schools with a lot more money, like Williams or Bowdoin. It has a friendly vibe, and my kid is very happy.

They give pretty significant merit aid (or what some insist on calling tuition discounts). I think up to about $40K a year for kids with top stats. In my view that makes it a better deal than some slightly higher ranked schools that offer no such aid (think Bates, Colby, Hamilton, Vassar).

+1 OP, this isn’t really an appropriate forum to solicit feedback about this school. Hard to get a reasonable read from this lot. The NoVa moms hate it because it’s not VT or whatever in state school they think you should be looking at. (They love to judge how other people spend their money.) the prestige whores hate it because it’s the least selective NESCAC. And the LAC haters hate it because, well, it’s a LAC. Campus is actually quite nice, though it does show the wear that you might expect given the small endowment. Totally agree that you’d have to really think about choosing Bates over CC with a $30k discount.

For those who consider U.S. News rankings, 37 places would not seem to be slight.

Friend of DC's was choosing between Conn and Macalester. Ultimately picked Mac, but felt that Conn had a similar vibe.

Trinity is happy Conn College is still in the NESCAC. Seems like a lot of money for what.

Dp. Oh please. Do you really think anyone cares about these numbers irl? I went to a T15 SLAC and I can tell you that no one thinks any more or less of me than someone from a T40 SLAC.

Bates doesn’t give merit?

When I think Macalester I think woke. Is Conn just as bad?

No, it doesn’t.

My daughter is applying to a lot of these SLACs. She thinks that beyond SWAP and maybe Bowdoin, they basically all have the same level of name recognition. If she doesn’t get into W, A, or B (not applying to S or P) she will strongly consider going to a lower ranked school that gives her money over higher-ranked schools that don’t offer merit.

Personally I think they all have very similar name recognition and I’m in the northeast, and hire people and work with HR reviewing people. I think these lists and ranks are a bit silly. FWIW I went to a top SLAC. It was fine but hardly the top tier academic experience that people on here seem to assume it was.

Laughably low SAT scores. If you're a Connecticut resident, why in the world would you ever go there over a UConn?

A poster brought up rankings, characterizing a difference as "slight." Another poster used rankings as the basis for her reply. If you view 37 places as slight or irrelevant, that's up to you, should you have bothered to address the actual point. In any case, you apparently have adhered to rankings in your characterization of your own school as a T15 SLAC, in that it only can be defined as such through a ranking, although you left your source unspecified.
