Absolutely and even more so. If I knew my child wasn't ready to handle life saving medication on their own, I would not send them on an overnight trip.

This is a bad take -- the school is obliged to accommodate kids with disabilities - which by definition he is, even if he doesn't have an IEP or a 504 plan, the school would still be obliged to accommodate his med needs under the ADA.

PP, your take is bad because we live in a society that has chose to try to include people with differences. A child should not be excluded from school events and opportunities because they have a medical issue - whether it is depression, anxiety, allergy or diabetes.
