Trump threatening "massive tariffs" on China. It's Apr 2 all over again, except it's Oct 10

The funniest part is that tariffs only make sense if you are trying to protect/support/grow homeland production. Generally that hurts overall productivity and growth, but it's an understandable goal, especially for national security reasons.

But it only works if local companies feel like they have solidity that the tariffs will be around for a while protecting them and making their capital investments worthwhile. That's why it needs to be sturdy and legislative with specific time periods (probably minimum 5 or 10 years). If it's willy nilly and constantly subject to being cut back, the companies can't know that they will actually get the protection from foreign competitors, and they won't risk the capital investments you actually want them to make, to produce the goods.

So it's not just costly to US consumers, it doesn't produce the production benefits that are the other side of the equation.

People found massive shorts an hour before this was announced. They are 100% insider trading.

There is massive insider trading by those in the White House and their cronies. The next administration needs to giver the SEC some teeth again and have all these trades investigated and prosecuted. The corruption of the GOP is breathtaking. We are such a banana republic these days.

They are just doing this so they can profit from the shorts they placed. Go look at how many there have been.

This seems awful for smaller farms. Also, ending USAID crippled many of them as well.

It's so bad for farmers. They have to be making decisions now about spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on inputs and equipment for next year, making assumptions about what they will be able to sell 10-12 months from now. They have zero solidity that a product that has a big market now will have one in a year. It's insanity and exactly why these tariffs and the "process" will end up hurting the economy so much.

I could care less. The same old rhetoric is getting really old.

We're already through 9 months of the mad king's reign. We only have 3.25 years to go, and it's over for good.

No because Republicans bought Dominion Voting we are never voting freely and fairly again. They are going to us paper ballots.
This is assuming Miller doesn't get his way and 2025 Nov will be the last votes becasue they will use the Miliary against Americans. Plus the Quarti base lets in Russia fun times.

Paper ballots just means you fill in the bubble and scan it in. We already do this in Virginia. In any event, even if a new Republican is elected in 2028, all of this tariff nonsense will be entirely rolled back. Only the moron-in-chief believes this is effective (maybe not even him).

Paper ballots mean it can be easily falsified the most reliable is electronic voting

This is false. Election rights groups say paper is better. Even Elon said this because he knows how to steal an election.

Paper ballots can be hand counted.

Anyone remember in June when TACO made the announcement? Stock market went up 10% that day.

Since the market is so high now, TACO has more breathing room and can allow it drop another 10-20% before he feels the pressure to chicken out. Then he will tweet the announcement (about delay in tariffs for 120 days or so) and the market will go up 10% in one day again. Remember..,TACO.

F farmers. They receive massive subsidies even without crazy Trump tariffs. Now they want/need subsidy handouts bc their guy that they voted for pissed off their largest export market. Yet they whine about socialism. They don’t care about other poor people — just as long as they get theirs. Hearing this administration cry tears that china is being mean by not buying US soybeans is hilarious. You know who is laughing — Brazil, China, and Argentina

Trump gave them subsidies in his first term after he tanked the market. Biden generously extended them. However, they've shown that they believe in capitalism with this vote, since Trump warned them he'd tank the market. They can FAFO now. I really don't care.
