This is what the website says : “ Artificial turf contains hundreds of harmful chemicals like lead, heavy metals, benzene, arsenic, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), PFAS, and phthalates, some of which are cancer-causing (carcinogens), neurotoxins, and/or endocrine disruptors.” |
...that apparently appear in many other water sources, but not ours. |
Maybe, but the toxins are in the turf definitely. |
So don't go on the field. Problem solved. |
Now I've gone down the rabbit hole. DMV listed at the very bottom of the most toxic metro areas as of the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) Program: https://www.epa.gov/trinationalanalysis/states-and-metropolitan-areas Mother Earth doesn't even rate us: https://www.motherearthliving.com/health-and-wellness/top-10-most-toxic-cities-in-america/ In fact, the NRDC says about DC: In Congressional District 98, District of Columbia, in the years 2023-2024, 5 PFAS and hazard index levels are within allowable federal thresholds. Overall, PFAS were detected but were below federal thresholds. This is making me think this whole protest is even more insane than I did previously, which I didn't think possible. |
