Fcybl winter select

Can the coach posting here or someone else shed light on the selection process and timeline? Do offers first go out to the top 10 or 11 they want on the first team, with a deadline to respond? Then once that deadline passes they go to the next 10 or 11 or maybe more depending on if they had a couple of kids say no from the first round of offers? Then once that deadline for that second group expires, the coach reaches out to the third group of kids? And then finally a fourth group who wouldn’t have gotten offers at all if it weren’t for other kids declining? This is assuming three teams of course.

We have a friend who got an offer from VYS after the first tryout. We haven’t heard from the coaches.

Every club does it differently, but most rational organizations fill their first team with 10-12 commited players, and then put out offers for their 2nd team, fill that roster, and then move to the third team.

I’m a coach of a select team.

We sent out all our offers at the same time.

Waiting to hear back on acceptance. If anyone declines, we give them 48 hours, we then go to the kids ranked 11,12, 13 on our list….

Some kids get offers right away.

Some towns do 2 tryouts.

But my kid got offer after the first tryout. Coach called me to offer my kid a spot right away as they did not want to lose her to another team. She was the top player on the team that year.

Do you give any preference to kids who made a team last year? Or is is like a blank slate every year and all that matters is performance at tryouts?

Definitely preference. But for 5th grade, all kids are new. I coach and older team. I prefer to keep the same kids as we have already reviewed plays, defenses, I know what I’m getting. However, there is Always room for a good player on the team. If we get a few stars, we will bump a few kids who are bench players. If we get 2 kids similar, we will take the player we already know.

Most teams have made offers by now. We did last week and gave kids 48 hours to decide.

McLean girls Select, Grade 5

Did all the offers go out for both teams? Are there any more tryouts scheduled?

Why were there so many kids from other towns at the tryouts my daughter mentioned.

McLean's FCYBL zip codes include Falls Church and Great Falls (and Falls Church didn't have a 5th grade girls team last year).
