Who can afford First Class prices?

We budget for it.

Ohh the new AirFrance first looks amazing. Couldn’t convince DH to go for it over business our last trip- Enjoy!!

US to Europe business is typically $3k to $5k depending on the route and time of the year. The expensive first class tickets are to the Middle East, Japan, and Oceania.

I was upgraded once and... meh? I didn't find the lie down seat that much more comfortable and the food was still airplane food. I wouldn't pay for it.

If I start from IAD the price was, when I booked, 8700 and change. But, if I book the flight starting from Florida (first leg MIA to IAD then the exact flight from IAD), it is 2200. So I'll fly to Miami, and then start my journey from there. The extra step and cost is worth the 6000 savings.

If you have to fly to Miami to reach Europe, you cannot afford to fly Business Class. Time is much more valuable and there’s no way I’d tack on a 3 hour flight plus layover for this. There’s no way you are finding $6,000 in savings by doing this.

You, dear, are a pompous idiot.

Picked random dates in October. $3600 to Dubai roundtrip on BA business, 90 minute stop in London.

Sorry I meant on a Middle Eastern carrier. BA first class is worse than business on most airlines. Look for first class on Emirates or Etihad.

IAD to EDI next month is $12,000, United Polaris nonstop. A couple months ago it was $9,000.

This sounds about right. I fly to Europe and Asia 5-10x per year, always business class. The key is to book far in advance and be willing to have a connection.

I have a business meeting coming up in Mumbai in February. Currently this is pricing at under $4,000 r/t on Qatar, Swiss, British, Lufthansa, and Turkish from IAD. India is a very competitive market and February is low season in the US (but great time to visit India weather-wise)

Nonstop flights are our key to travel.

Because there is only one flight and no competition and you are pricing this out so close to travel date.

It's currently $4170 next month in Business on JetBlue connecting in BOS or JFK, from IAD.

There are no non-stops from IAD to Bombay (there is one to Delhi though).

We budget for it but not paying 12k either. My dh is a big guy and wants the extra space.

This seems like an odd thing to “budget” for. Either you can easily afford it or you can’t.

Connecting on JetBlue business on an overnight flight? No thanks, I'll pay a premium for Polaris nonstop.

We travel internationally a lot and almost always lay flat seats. Most times we're upgraded for free (although the upgrades are becoming less frequent and we're now more likely to pay for the upgrade closer to the day of travel)
