Ha ha, I clicked on this thread to see just how quickly some jealous mom would react to OP in disgust. You pulled the trigger even more quickly than I thought!

I still remember the parents' formal at our daughter's sorority. It was very nice. As I recall, it was black tie? One of the sisters came from a billionaire family with well known parents and they actually showed up. We got to meet them. It was interesting! No harm done at all.

That was UVA, btw.

A room full of Republican pedos is not something people aspire to.

A room full of parents who can not let their ADULT children have their own lives funny... gross... and dumb. But hey given your responses we have already seen dummy is fitting.

If you think my 1% world is accepting you nope.

My guess is that it’s not about inability to let children go. It’s about Gen X’s inability to realize they are the middle aged parents. They can’t let go of teenage fun and having to be part of the action.

No, my daughter invited us, and she would be crushed if we didn’t attend. It’s not about us, it’s about her. Perhaps your kids feel differently about having you around with an attitude like that?

The parents aren't sponsoring these and they're not the parents' idea. So I'm confused how attending these as a parent because the kids decide to have them and invite the parents means they cannot let their children live their own lives?

It was none of the above at our daughter's UVA sorority formal. We weren't asked to do anything and there was no follow up. We just got decked out and had dinner and drinks and dancing with our daughter, her date, her sorority sisters, and the other parents. It was fancy and fun, and that's it.

Green is such an ugly color . . .

Hmm. My sister was a pi phi at uva and never would have mentioned this to my parents who couldn’t have afforded it and their presence might have been embarassing for her with her richer “sisters.” I do wonder if it’s awkward for the girls who aren’t from that sort of family.

It wasn't expensive. Your parents could have afforded it.

Dear Lord. I'm glad it's you and not me, OP. And I like dressing up.

I had this exact thought. I would have never ever brought my parents to something like this.

We weren't forced to go. We were invited. Our daughter very much wanted us to go. Sure, we weren't poor at the time. But there were plenty of other girls in the sorority who were of more modest means than us and all the parents came and appeared to enjoy themselves I guess we had a better relationship with our kid than you did with your parents. Or at least our family was less uptight.

I guess your families never had any occasion to ever dress up and go out together? Sad.

I don't need a dress for a sorority formal but these are great!!

This goes everywhere. Add a scarf, a bolero, a shawl, a statement necklace, whatever.

Yes, I'm sure they loved being fawned over by the hangers-on.

We were united in our sisterhood. It was fine.

No! They want longer dresses for Instagram pic uniformity. I think the Vince dresses are ok, if plain. I think there will be a range of formality. I would not wear a ball gown myself, just a longer length cocktail dress. Reformation has a lot of long/midi dresses.

That’s okay. We have our own 1% world and don’t care if you accept us.

100% a fundraiser.

Love how the mommies here think if someone criticizes, they must be jealous. Nope, just not my interests, nor my daughters'

“Instagram pic uniformity”?

I was a sorority sister; we didn’t do this kind of stuff. Longer version of same dress at Spanx.
