My frizzy curly grey hair...

One look at Hollywood celebrities can clear this misperception in a second. Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Anniston, Jennifer Garner, Demi Moore, Juliane Moore... I could go on and on. All these women are clearly old enough to have gray hair, but all very naturally color it. Stop saying coloring ages or looks bad. If you're not lazy, coloring looks a million times better and more youthful.

And how much do they pay and how much time do they spend in the salon? The type of color that is accessible and realistic for a lot of us just looks bad. Sometimes looking your age is overall more attractive than trying to cover it up. A 50 year old woman may fit into trendy 20 something clothes but that doesn’t mean it’s a good look.

No shade on women who want to color their hair, but I can attest that if you are a low maintenance type, it may not make you look or feel better … then you will be stuck growing it out for 2 years.

And another BIG issue is damage. My hair got totally fried by highlights and did not look cute. I’ve finally grown them out mostly and very happy to have healthy hair back. celebs can get their hair styled every day or wear a wig - the rest of us bumble along with the tell-tale straw hair of the middle aged.

I am a low maintenance type. Didn't like how my long curly hair looked with greys in it and just started dyeing it this year for the first time ever (in my early 50s). I like how it looks much better. I do a partial treatment (just the top is dyed - idk really how it works but is not that expensive and takes about a half hour) maybe every six weeks. It is close to my natural hair color. I like it slightly less than my old natural hair, but REALLY like that there are no greys. When it starts growing in I can see the roots, but it doesn't bother me very much.

Where do you go to get this done? How much does it cost?

Every six weeks would mean I have very visible roots half the time. All over color is unflattering so there would need to be highlights, which are damaging. All this to look good for maybe 1 week and paying a lot of money. Plus I swim.

I decided that when my hair turns gray or white, I’m going to dye it all sorts of cool colors. Maybe I’ll start with dying the bottom half just to get used to it.

That’s my suggestion: Dye your hair purple and lean into this new life stage!

49 yo woman- I have the same hair. I look good with a pixie, but have been growing it into a bob for some reason. It never looks groomed. My mom’s hair was just like mine.
I took oral minoxidil for a while and it work, but it made me bloated and also elevated my liver enzymes. I stopped and listened to all the hair I’d gained back.
I do recommend Polar shampoo hair dye. I bought it off instagram. It works like magic and is supposed to be natural, no ammonia.

Lost all the hair, not listened.
