This isn’t a private school. It doesn’t matter what happens there. And “not being ignorant” of this and that sounds like one way of saying… “the system is working for my kid, so why doesn’t everyone calm down?” I actually hope you’re a CO troll because if you’re an actual magnet parent? Ick. I wouldn’t like you IRL. |
And didn't the design team members have to sign NDAs? |
I mean the CO PP |

I agree with most of the sentiment of the WP article.
My kids attended/graduated from PHS’ Global Ecology magnet and the program office hasn’t addressed how Ecology will be managed with the new proposed regional model. From the 8/21 board slides, I believe they are dismantling it but under the guise of merging SMCs and Global together, but clarification is needed. Why destroy one of the most beloved programs? Why can’t they just work to strengthen the existing regional programs like SV, Kennedy, Watkins Mill IB? Regional programs do take a while to develop/become strong. I think Global was founded in the 1990(s)- but has only really been a strong program in the last decade. |
Either you’ve never attempted to engage and solve problems with MCPS yourself or you’re gaslighting. Evelyn is on the programs design team. She talked about how the design team’s feedback has been ignored by MCPS. She also talked about how MCCPTA has made numerous attempts to engage with MCPS and their recommendations have gone unheard and disregarded. Parents, staff, students and advocates go to the media and lawsuits after attempts to engage the system privately and directly prove fruitless. These are the only things that get MCPS to move. And yet you are admonishing the people for using the press, which is a constitutionally enshrined institution in democracy, of which MCPS is part of via its democratically elected BOE? You appear to be someone who works in Central Office. I would advise you to quit working or MCPS or quickly change your mindset because you have the totally incorrect and harmful mentality to be working on behalf of a public school system. |
+1 |
I have two kids, one went through CES to magnet track, and the other one is in CES right now. From a parent perspective, I echo this article in every concern because they are all legitimate concerns. The vigorous resentful response you showed hints you are probably from central office. As discussed in other responses, the fact that the article author is from within the study team who should have signed a NDA but still chose to speak out publicly proves that central office doesn't listen at all to community inputs. They shut their ears and eyes and show attitude exactly like yours. No this forum is not for the purpose for negativity. This is a forum for community to vet out their concerns and unhappiness about MCPS administrations. |
Are you new to MCPS? It would be much more shocking to learn that MCPS *is* listening to and making decisions based on what their various "advisory" committees say... them ignoring it (especially on issues where they clearly have preferred outcomes) is absolutely what I would expect. MCPS Central Office really listening to parent and community impact, even when it contradicts their own preferences, would require a major culture change. And Taylor does not seem to be up to driving that at all. rents and community members |
I’m the writer and No I don’t work in CO or for the school district in any other capacity. Once again, not everyone parent or family in the district shares your exact same opinion. Especially not all the time. |
No I'm not. I'm a long-term fighter to MCPS's ignorance to community inputs for over a decade. I'm just shocked to see from some of the responses that people now give up to fight and call others who haven't surrendered as "pure negativity". I still believe in democracy. Even though it sounds like a joke under this current administration, it's depressing to see people in the deep-blue community believes democracy never existed in its education system and will never appear. |
And you think you would be liked by most IRL? And for the record I have seen the AAP and Fairfax forum, and my point still stands, that forum is not nearly as busy as the MCPS forum. MCPS is well known for being the district with whiny over the top parents. |
Are you simple? This post started about an article written in Bethesda Magazine. Also the MCPS is not restricted to only people in MCPS. |
And yoj know this how? Because you’ve heard one person’s input. I’ve heard numerous persons input. Guess what not everyone agrees that things should be slowed down. Yes, all want various questions answered, but some are highly in agreement with the 6 region model and looking forward to the possibility it brings. Because that challenges your narrative and thoughts doesn’t make it an invalid community opinion. |
The inequity doesn't mean getting rid of the top magnets. The biggest inequity is the achievement gap. CO needs to focus more on that than getting rid of the few shining stars of MCPS. No one is saying don't create more regionals. People, and the article, are saying don't get rid of the tried and true magnets when MCPS can't even show that the 4 regional IBs that they created a few years ago are successful or manage existing program to success.

MCPS can't even manage the programs that they have now, or do any kind of analysis of those programs. Yes, they need to slow down the process and think things through. My kids were the first class to be the 2.0 guinea pigs. We moved here right as 2.0 was starting. I was willing to give it a shot, but I also didn't have the history of 2.0 or MCPS when we moved here. I heard parents complaining about 2.0 and how awful it was. I thought the same as you.. let's give it a shot; those parents should stop complaining. I even wrote a long post about it on this forum to give it a shot. Boy, was I wrong. After 10+ years in MCPS I have learned that MCPS is terrible at managing and implementing programs. We moved here because of the magnet programs. Such a huge loss to MCPS to get rid of the county wide magnets that draw the best and brightest from around the country. This is our last year in MCPS, thank god. |
