FCPS - Getting Elementary Age Child Exempt from Spanish

Anonymous
I had a special education teacher friend who had a student who was from another country, not one that spoke Spanish, and he was trying to learn English, and was also required to go to Spanish FLES, and the poor kid was so overwhelmed. He had words coming at him all day in different languages. Schools should work to make sense for a kid like that. I’d rather see a student like OP’s in another grade level classroom on a computer with headphones working on phonics or reading books with narration help available. That would not disturb the host classroom and would make better use of the child’s time. Also, this specials time for FLES is undoubtedly held during specials for the rest of the grade level, so let this child attend an extra session of music or PE with some other home room in the same grade level.
