"unapologetically" is what I hear. re #1 |
TO is not really a thing at top 10 schools anymore. But full pay URM from private feeders (not just regular privates) will always be in demand |
lol. there is no way someone can authoritatively speak to this with such conviction. My full pay (non-DMV) private school kid got in TO past cycle to 4 T20s. Another going through cycle this year. We shall see. |
What does this mean? Translate please. |
Examples? Isn’t it enough to not provide a SS#? |
I mean great, but welcome to reality? If they’re being scrutinized for their admissions programs and need to send the government sat scores and applicant race, they’re going to need to even out those scores. Rich black kids have better sat scores than poor black kids. |
This. Someone is filling this board with junk today. |
lol that's what he said on the post. |
Huh? I’m the OP. This is the only post I have started or responded to today…I responded earlier too. It’s ok if you don’t agree with me. Talk to your school’s college counseling office or your own private college counselor and get your own advice. I wouldn’t ever rely on anything I read online without doing my own research and verification. Seriously you guys are paranoid. |
There are countless posts about how to show wealth in an application. Maybe do a little digging on this site for old threads? |
Disagree. Context always matter. URM at an unde-rresourced school, even with a lower score, will be valued in view of the context. Rich private school URM, with a bit higher score but lower than their school average, will not be viewed the same as the former. |
DP. I’m mortified for any parent/student combo earnestly brainstorming about how to do this. |
That part of application is hidden for need-blind schools? |
This actually merits its own post imo. its way more nuanced than people think, and the very pricey college counselors spend a ton of time on this. Some IEC (like AN) think you shouldn't show privilege at all in your app, including service trips, pricey sports, and pay-to-play programming. Other NY-based IECs (think the very famous and expensive ones) believe the opposite. Don't hide your privileged activities (squash, sailing, polo, equestrian, service trips to Rwanda, whatever) - show the AO what you've done with that privilege - what have you accomplished, achieved, and changed. Those who embrace the privilege (to whom much is given, much is expected) tend to do well in the process, at least from what I've seen in my (small private school) circle. There's no formula. Do what feels right to your kid and their story. |
It's not hidden. If it's completed, it says: XXX-XX-XXX. If it's not completed, it says 'NA'. |
