But India seems to look at the alliance between Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran - and they want in. India seems keen to align with the baddies, so I would expect Indian exports - such as they are - to be pretty much non-existent in western markets going forward.

Why should India align with a bully? If you give in to Trump, he just demands more. I applaud any country that defends its sovereignty and stands up to bullies.

By the way, India agreed to give up Russian oil and buy it from the US if the US offered the same price as Russia. If buying from Russia is so bad, why didn't the US agree to sell them oil at the Russian price?

Trump shut down USAID> Our official policy is not to be subsidizing other countries.

India hasn't figured out how to thrive economically yet, and it's a country that goes back over 5000 years -- one of the o oldest continuous civilizations in the world. Selling cheaper oil right now for a few years isn't going to fix it, if 5000 years hasn't.

So why should India give in to America's bullying? If America's policy is America first, shouldn't India's policy be India first?

PS: were you meaning to suggest that it wasn't already this? That India was some kind of self-sacrificing noble martyr to further the interests of other countries at the expense of their own? Please.

And US is moral? Trump is moral? Why is US buying minerals from Russia? Why is supporting terrorist state Pakistan?

Why should India trade cheap Russian oil for expensive American oil? It is a poor country.

PP here. You aren't arguing with me, you know. I am not taking any stance contrary to yours.

India is a long-lasting civilization with high economic disparity and incredible amounts of poverty. They make the choices they make, as will every other country. But there is no reason for the US to subsidize their choices at this point, under this administration.

If India loses out because of those choices, then that's what happens. If the US does, then so be it. but India's no martyr for the rest of the world, and the US is no sugar daddy.

Yeah LMAO at any remaining notion that America has some moral superiority over other countries at this point.

And America is dealing with the fallout of its own actions. India will deal with its own, too.

Neither of these rules out the other.

If you have to pick between a bully and a murderer, I think that choice is pretty easy.

I'm the poster you have been responding to. Your position is reasonable. However the US is trying to counter China. I don't think the US would be playing sugar daddy to entice India to its side. China's approach to trade harms Americans.

I'd say they both do, but I don't know what the answer to that is (for either country).

Likely the best answer for any country is to keep critical infrastructure as internal as possible, but to also maintain a multitude of strong ally connections and open trade lines with other countries that have similar values and goals. Trump has kind of pissed all over the world pot for the US in that aspect, though.

This. I take a medicine that is manufactured in India. It’s a brand name and already costs $120 a month.

They are British companies that are currently owned by an Indian company. When they were owned by Ford, they were British companies, not American companies. When they were owned by BMW, they were British companies, not German companies. And the cars sold in the US are manufactured in the UK. Land Rovers and Jaguars made in India are for the Indian market.

It's a good time to move away from the fast-food model of durable goods.
