Gifts for 7th grade girls

Anonymous
I would simply buy a benign gift card where the kid can pick out any number of items, ie Target or Amazon, unless you know the kid well. While you can buy a lot of different items other than makeup @ Sephora, some parents may not be happy with that, as one of PPs implied.

She would not use Ulta/Sephora gift cards.

Ask the parents for ideas/suggestions OP. Or ask what hobbies she has.

She’s probably in the minority then. Most teenage girls don’t want Snoopy slides or Dick’s gift cards. Is she a tomboy?

Mine would love! She's not vain like yours.

Why are you insulting my daughter? I didn’t insult yours. It makes sense a tomboy wouldn’t like Sephora. But liking Sephora doesn’t mean my daughter is vain.

NP.

Sephora sells vibrators. Without any age limits, I might add.

So does Target. Do you refuse to let your precious kid walk in there?

There needs to be a ban on anyone under 18 buying one of those things.

You didn't answer the question.

Since you don't know this girl at all, just get the Target or Amazon gift card and be done with it. Fool proof!

But chiming in on the Dicks v. Sephora debate -- my 12 yr old DD is on a travel soccer team and pretty much all her friends on the team would love a gift card to EITHER.

This has to be the nuttiest response I’ve ever seen. So does Amazon. Target also sells R rated movies. Presumably you’d be going with your child to Sephora? I’ve been there many times and have never seen a vibrator on display.

But thanks for the info! I need to do some shopping!

The young girls should not have the access to such devices.

We don't call people Tomboys anymore, PP. That's an insult. Why on earth would you consider a sporty girl boy-like? How rude!!!

Not PP, but “tomboy” isn’t typically used in a complimentary sense. So you might not have intended to insult, but….

I’ve never heard that tomboy is an insult. In fact, I’m a tomboy. I am not into skincare or a makeup. But my daughter is. I did not intend to insult anyone’s child by asking if they were a tomboy. But there was clear intent to insult my child. Gross.

The gross person here is you - how can you have a teen child and not know that the term "tomboy" is no longer used? You sound very conservative and old.

Because liking sports and not wearing frilly dresses or makeup doesn't make you a boy. It's old language.

Why are your ideas of gender so rigid that you have to call yourself a boy if you aren't wearing pink and sparkles and makeup?
