What are the valid reasons for not being drafted

While there is no chance he could enroll in the military even if he wanted to serve because he wouldn’t pass the health screening, he still had to register in case there is ever a draft.

The only males who don’t have to register are those who are incarcerated or institutionalized continuously from age 18 to 26.

I am really surprised not everyone realizes this

During the WWs, all men in the US, even non-citizens, had to register. Is this still the case?

Are you foreign or really old?

That wasn't even the case when I graduated in the 80s

Im still confused as to why after all this time, women don't have to sign up for the selective service.

Poor Sgt. Klinger; he was 50 years too early.

Klinger was neither gay nor trans. He dressed in women's clothes so he could get out of the Army on a Section 8

"You're a tribute to man's endurance; a monument to hope in size 12 pumps. I hope you do get out someday; there would be a battalion of men in hoopskirts right behind you."

(~Sidney Freedman, to Klinger, in War of Nerves)

Sidney Freeman was the psychiatrist in M.A.S.H. who didn't fall for Corporal Klinger's crossdressing.

Pedantry FTW.

There won't be a draft. Such fear mongering.

For same reason the Equal Rights Amendment never passed: Women stopped supporting it once they realized that true equality means giving up privileges that they quietly want to keep.

Ridiculous. Everyone should have to sign up.

FWIW — conscientious objectors might still be drafted — but assigned different types of roles. Similarly, even people with health issues could, at some point, be drafted — but assigned certain types of jobs. So someone with impaired vision that’s corrected with glasses might get a job as a military journalist— just like JD Vance.

Also, if this question is about what might happen now - vs what happened 50 years ago, keep in mind that changes can happen at any time. Age limits, for example, could be changed. Student deferments could be changed to favor particular courses of study, be eliminated altogether, or continue to benefit the already privileged.

Dems are not in control therefore no draft stop the drama.

I think it’s not that deep. Several factors at play:

Like it or not, women do have less muscular strength than men.

Women who desperately don’t want to be drafted could get pregnant, resulting in a baby boom

No concern about both parents being drafted

Is it even enough to have them leave the country? I’ve always heard of draft dodgers fleeing to Canada and such. But from what I read, you can be drafted even if you live abroad and have dual citizenship..?

DS builds submarines. He will not be drafted. I did not realize all ADHD was on out too.

I think they have to be taking meds for it, and the meds have to be a stimulant.

Dp here. I doubt you posted anything the op didn’t already know. Everyone realizes that registering is not the same as qualifying for a draft.

Surprisingly there are people who do NOT realize this. The FAFSA used to have an option to automatically register males. That option was taken away during the simplified FAFSA so there are many males who don’t realize they have to register.
