I am so happy that artificial ingredients, added sugar and toxic, carcinogenic pesticides are on the chopping block.

Of course this will not actually come to pass. It's too good to be true. No brilliant idea that ever came of this administration has ever happened, like reducing the price of meds (Biden did that).

BTW, the European Union has had rules in place limiting this stuff for YEARS. This is not a bridge too far, people. Americans are dying of diabetes, obesity, and entirely preventable cancers. We need to clean up our food chain!

Separately, Kennedy has been extremely destructive for vaccine research and is making us unhealthier in a multitude of other ways!!!

The the solution is to get corn and corn sugar/high fructose corn syrup out of all of our food and eliminate all processed foods from our public schools and don't allow SNAP funds to purchase processed foods, soda or other junk foods.

And if you do this, watch the American farmers and the consuming public go bananas on the lawmakers who impose it.

"All processed foods"? That would include bread, low fat milk, nut butters, and precut veggies. Perhaps you mean ultraprocessed?

Also this is not happening without increasing taxes. So sure, as long as you agree to increase your local taxes to pay for it? I mean, I supported improving school lunches back when Michelle Obama took that initiative but Republicans somehow were adamantly opposed. What changed?

When we cut SNAP benefits, are we doing anything to change food deserts?

Food deserts are when people live in rural areas, and or in a culture that drives business away due to violent crime and theft.

Those are things that the government cannot control.

Government can definitely incentivize grocery stores to create locations in food deserts.

The government already does this, as seen in DC Supermarket incentives, but many of the stores close due to "shrinkage" and violence against their employees.

Demanding that vaccine development be followed up with a double-blind study to test its effectiveness is the opposite of destroying research.

Work to improve nutritional quality for school lunches. Her initiative was rolled back by the Trump administration in 2017:

Not when it's been successfully done otherwise and adding a double-blind study would delay vaccines such that vulnerable people will die.

Is this the report that was full of citations to studies that don’t exist?

One pending bill tries to define candy as “flourless”, but under that definition, Twix and Kit Kat would be exempt. Cereal also gets blurry. Many cereals contain added sugar but also contain healthy ingredients. Do we ban Honey Nut Cheerios?

There isn’t much evidence to suggest SNAP recipients eat any less healthily than other low-income earners. It’s also hard to restrict foods without further stigmatizing that group. I’ve gone through periods where money was extremely tight, and being able to have an occasional treat or give my kids a birthday cake was so important psychologically. There’s a strain of Ayn Rand heartlessness in these policies - the attitude seems to be if you’re poor, you must live only on rice and beans until you’ve bootstrapped yourself into a strata of society that deserves ice cream.

That said, I do agree with reducing harmful food dyes amd additives, looking at alternative pest reduction methods, and encouraging Americans to eat more healthily. I’m old enough to remember when Michelle Obama wanted everyone to eat more fruits and veggies, and the right wing lost their mind. This shouldn’t be a partisan issue.

Sweetened beverages and soda are the top two items purchased through SNAP. By definition, that is junk nutrition and evidence of SNAP recipients eating less healthy.

SNAP; it is in the name, is meant to provide sustenance, not treats on the taxpayer's dime.

Actually, milk and ground beef are #2 and #3. And the point was that the buying habits of SNAP recipients aren’t substantially different from the buying habits of lower income Americans in general, therefore they aren’t demonstrably less healthy than that population.

If we’re concerned about their health, we should be providing them more assistance so they can buy organic, local, grass fed, and whole grain. Eating healthy isn’t cheap.

Glycophosphate is allowed in the EU.

I believe pesticides can cause cancer but I also believe we need food, so.

Shut up you stupid MAGA!

I will never trust anyone who thinks RFK Jr. is fit to be their representative for health policies.

Let me know when farm lobby goes along with these plans and MAHA has enough votes in Congress to get it done. Not anytime soon from what I can tell.

Couldn’t the same argument be made for every medical intervention? What makes vaccines so special?

She tried promoting better nutrition, exercise, fresh food, whole grains for kids. Less sugar, less high fructose corn syrup and preservative laden processed foods. The right wing lost their minds.
