When did you start graying?

Anonymous
My family are blonds and redheads. The blondes tend to first get some noticeable greying in their 60,s. My Mom is maybe 25 percent grey in her early 80s. The redheads do not go grey, their hair fades to a pale straw colored blonde. I’m strawberry blond and I have a very small amount of grey at my temples and the rest of my hair just presents as a lighter shade of red/blonde now than when I was younger. I am 60.

started at 39 when I was pregnant with my last child. Noticeable at 42 or so.

Usually.
Some very light blonde people start going gray in their mid 20s are completely gray/white by their 40s.
Some dark haired people don't start until their late 50s and don't go gray until their late 60s or 70s.

I thought it was the opposite?

Fair, dark (originally lighter) blonde here, 54 and I've only plucked a handful from my temples. Otherwise nada.

Currently, a few at my temples and a few strays elsewhere.

It started my first year of law school at 29, but I’m very blonde so it wasn’t noticeable. I had enough for others to notice it by my early 40s or so.

That's what I was thinking. I was also surprised my brown lasted so long. I have very hard to notice unless you are in my family grey. They look like highlight hairs. I have the kind of brown that gets lighter brown highlights in sun exposure. BUT the new hair near my temples is greyer than the rest, which I don't like. I have male pattern baldness thining too. I'm 51...I think.

Mid 40s. I’m 50 and it it 80 percent gray and I just started coloring for the first time.

I don't know when it became truly noticeable because I started highlighting almost immediately after grays started appearing. From there it was a progression of highlighting and coloring until I finally gave up the losing battle to cover and stop coloring at around 50.

I’m 48 and still no grays. I have very dark hair I dye blonde and the stylist says it’d be better if I were gray instead. The root regrowth would be less noticeable.

Might be less noticeable in lighter hair compared to dark.
More overall pigmentation the body produces, tends to mean the hair stays darker longer.

I would say for me…early-/mid-forties.

Started as a few strays in my late 30s. Then a couple years later during COVID, seems like they just erupted everywhere. Mostly just around my edges though and more on the right side than the left. I have to color my hair now. Jealous of you ladies in your mid-late 40s and don't have any yet.
