Does religion make you good?

In my experience, religiosity (all religions) has zero correlation to human goodness or decency.
Of course there are people of faith who are good. But most seem to use it to justify their exceptionalism (god loves *them* god forgives *them* god blessed *them*). There's no connection at all, imho. |

| I think being taught to be good helps people be good. For the life of me I don't understand why people who hate teaching goodness in schools then want to send their children to religious schools. How are these different? I think it helps to have good lessons and examples in your life of how to lead a worthy life. From there people pick and choose how they want to live as an adult and religion can either be an excuse for bad behavior or a reason to refrain from bad behavior or the other way round where people make these choices without religion influencing them. |

I think it's because in the case of sending their kids to a religious school, the parents choose exactly which brand of religious teaching their kids get and with public schools, they don't. |
