Yeah. I think because people here are more insecure than New Yorkers.

If you live in anywhere in Maryland and are worried about “prestige” something is wrong.

+1. I live in a suburb of NYC that 10 billionaires call home and conversations like this would never happen. It’s amusing to read threads like this, but also pretty depressing. Posters are so mean spirited and status chasing.

I peaked into the Nova prestige thread, and it's 1000 times worse than this thread. It's the losers of the world trying to one-up each other. Really sad and pathetic.

America!

Washington actually. You don’t realize how segregated it is compared to other cities because you live there. But it always weirds me out when I visit. Cuties north of DC are less segregated. When I’m in “white” parts of DC the only black prop me I see are baristas and doormen/service people. It’s gross.

Yeah, like that notable bastion of racial integration Boston.

Guess you’ve never lived in Los Angeles or Dallas.

Honestly, lived in NY area and DC area only my entire life. There is no comparison at all. The NY area is far more status obsessed. The infrastructure of access is ten times what it is in DC.

The funny thing about this thread and the Nova one is that both pale in comparison to NW DC neighborhoods. I work in fundraising so I know who lives where and the wealthiest, most prestigious people live in Foxhall, Spring Valley, Kent, Mass Ave Heights, Cleveland Park and Forest Hills. Check out the Green book sometime and you’ll see what I am talking about.

.

I live in the suburb outside NY with 10 billionaires and spent over a decade in the City. New Yorkers can appreciate different parts of the city for what they are. The UWS is great for families and relaxed, the UES is also great for families and close to schools but more status obsessed…both offer easy park access. Downtown (SoHo, West Village) are fun and great for going out… etc. There isn’t a hierarchy per se unless you’re talking about boroughs and then it’s Manhattan > Brooklyn > Queens and then the Bronx/Staten Island.

The larger point I was trying to make is that no one in NYC needs a thread like this because it’s subjective but also childish and unkind.

People in Manhattan and the hipster parts of Brooklyn crap on Staten Island all the time. What are you talking about?!

Lol this! in Boston and Chicago even the Irish, polish, and Italians segregate. Atlanta and Tampa are far more integrated than most northern cities I’ve visited.

🤣

Rachel Carson wrote Silent Spring when she lived in Silver Spring. It wasn't the subject of the book.
