I have a kid who often won't eat at all.
I would take your problem. |

Oh there was a lady who posted on and on a few years ago about the small amounts of food she made for her teenage athletes! We had her triple the amount of food she prepared at each meal.
Your kids are hungry. If they snack on fruit, great. But add some protein or fat to that fruit to get it to last longer and actually fill them up. Apple with peanut butter. strawberries and a some cheese. Cheese and nuts. Plain greek yogurt, berries and granola. My teenage swimmers can eat insane quantities of food. I just went to costco today for more bread, eggs and peanut butter. As long as your kids are in shape, exercising and eating meals, let them have their reasonable snacks. |
OP - I just cannot imagine what it will be like once they hit puberty. They already eat more than I do. |
| Op the fact that you had to tell us that you work out every day and only eat 1300 calories says a lot about your attitude towards food... |
Are you the same poster who responded to a thread about kids jumping on the bed with "my kid is paraplegic-- I'd love to have your problem."

I have an open fruit and veg policy in my house. Want a snack before dinner - fruit or veg. The ONLY thing I limit is starch snacks, like crackers. My kids would graze on them all day long and not eat meals. They'd probably end up with scurvy, if I let them.
OP, as others state, just buy healthy cheaper food, like chicken, tubs of yogurt, costco cheese blocks (these are quite good), etc. We spend 150-200/wk for a family of 4, one is a teen, all athletes. We are all slim and eat healthy unlimited portions of healthy food. |
| They are going to end up fat. You can’t develop habits like this and keep them up forever. Metabolism will catch up and then you just have bad habits. |
OP - yes I am also very worried about this as well. I am not overweight and worry about them becoming overweigh when they get older as well. |
Well isn't that what GLP-1 is for now? |
| Let kids eat as much as they want of healthy foods at designated eating times, let them get a little hungry between meals/snacks, and unclench about the price and the quantity. The only reason to track how much Greek yogurt your kids are eating is so you know when to buy more. |

Wow. Some people are being harsh.
I have two healthy boys and they eat a ton. They love produce but I offer them balanced meals. I wonder if your kids are eating so much fruit and still hungry because it’s not satiating enough. Have you tried making sure they get fat and protein with each meal? You listed a lot of produce and not much else that would help keep them full. I can share ideas and what I feed my kids if you would like. |
| Buy plain yogurt in bulk and bags of apples. Stop buying so many strawberries and babybel. Skip all convenience packaging. Make their snacks something they must actually prepare. |
You are a full adult who only eats 1300 calories a day? That’s not normal. Get your thyroid checked. That’s not enough calories for your body to function. Not to mention you workout. |

There is nothing wrong with carbs for growing kids. I always have good bread and butter or peanut butter available for a snack. There are foods that are cheap and filling. Buy bulk cereal and lots of bananas.
I also really limit my shopping trips, to just once a week. The whole family knows I shop on Thursdays so they budget the snacks accordingly. If they eat all the chips over the weekend, then they are munching on saltines through Wednesday night. There is always something to eat in the house, but I will purposely let us run out of items before I restock. |
