Same for Georgetown, you can graduate one year early. |
Northwestern accepts a ton of APs for credit. You have to score mostly 5s…Will accept some 4s. |
But you have to take something in its place as a freshman. |
You can graduate early with it if you want and use AP credits. They do have some minimum number of quarters, but you can graduate up to one year early. |
| My kid is at an OOS public and is on track to graduate in 3.5 years, not 4. This is due to 4-5 AP classes where they got 4 or 5s. (A few APs, they got 2s so those didnt count). |
| Mine got credit for his AP English so he didn't need to take English 101. This is at a Jesuit university and it looks like they accepted 4s and 5s for most AP tests. |
| My kids at T20 did not get credit. They wanted to see the academic rigor in HS, but getting a five on AP Calc didn’t get them out of Calc |
| Northeastern says a certain test score gets you out of freshman comp in English, so that’s a plus. |
Here’s the current chart concerning what you need to get credits in the Weinberg College at Northwestern: https://weinberg.northwestern.edu/undergraduate/first-year-transfer/first-year/placement-and-credit/ap-and-ib-exams/apib-credit-2024-25.html |

DD was able to use her scores to skip the 100-level intro courses, but the credit hours didn't count toward those needed for her major.
The only way to graduate early at her university is to take a full summer load for 2 years, but even then it is very difficult because not every course is offered during the summers. |
| My kid at Brown has notation on transcript for their class equivalent of bio, chem, apes and calc. Zero credit but used for placement. |
| DC school allow 30 credits, it allows double major with a lighter course load. |
|
UMich much more friendly to community college credits. CC credits also help a student get better priority for class registration where AP credits offer no help.
NoVa CC is your friend! |
Original poster here—UMich has a lot of prerequisite classes for majors. My kid had six prerequisites before even getting started on the 42 hour data science major. CC is a good way to get through the prerequisites. However, I appreciate that the school wants to have on ramps for students of different backgrounds who need the additional coursework. |
| I know this is very privileged to be able to say, but I don’t want my kids to graduate early. I’m sad how fast this year went. It’s such a great season of life. |
