Phone or watch if I expect my kid to keep it away at school?

I teach middle school. If you students is not responsible, get a watch, as it is always on the body and it is harder to lose. Get a phone if your child is responsible. With all 5 mods combined, 95 percent have a phone over a watch. A phone does much more. Both can be set with parental and school controls so I would take that out of the equation.

In a school shooting? Ok sure

In a school shooting the last thing your kid should be doing is paying attention to his phone rather than the adults keeping him safe.

I want my kids to be safe, then call me as soon as its over, which is what they do.. when something happens and they get evacuated, which happens at least a few times a year, they call when they are out.

Just finished middle school. 0 evacuations so far.

Know your school before you decide. Signal inside our school is so bad that no device is effective, whether for bad reasons or good ones. We're happy with the watch option because it eliminates a food deal of automatic temptation. DC14 doesn't yet have enough self-control for a phone and we can see that well enough.
