My oldest graduated from high school in 2023. I still occasionally read this forum to keep tabs until my youngest applies to college. I've noticed that the vibe changes every few years, as parents "age out" of undergrad college admissions. We're not originally from the US, and it seems weird to me that people would get so upset over whether this entirely unknown college is better than that entirely unknown college. Who cares???? It's either HYPSM plus a handful of others, or something specific to one's major, geography, finances or other preference. And which one exactly doesn't really matter, to be honest.

Nope, tons of better schools than those. |
^^ This is one of the trolls, who repeats this inane comment on every forum. |
DP. Going to have to respectfully push back on this. I'm a moderate conservative and what I've noticed on ANY thread that dares to ask what colleges might be good for conservative students - the LWNJ contingent derails the entire thread with their lunatic statements. If anyone *dares* to mention Hillsdale, for instance, the same cabal of nuts pounces on them. I'm very sure that I'm not the only person who has noticed this. |
Again, you really need to quit this nonsense. There are far more LWNJ trolls. After all, it's a liberal site. |
If you think either of these schools are crap than you don’t have a clue about higher education, or probably anything. |
Wow. Thanks for illustrating the mindset of the LWNJ troll. DP |
| UVa and Holy Cross are good schools. Lots of bias against red state schools-unfortunately. |
| Yes, the predictable "red state/southern schools" pile on trolls. Utter morons. |
You’re replying to me here. I do think there are a few specific people who try to turn every possible thread into an attack on Zionism or an argument that all schools in all Red states are off-limits because of antiabortion laws. If there is an organized effort to flood this forum with drek, those posts could come out of left side of the same spam office that produces the posts about how foolish getting a college degree is. The problem isn’t that the views are unreasonable. The problem is that the people posting those posts usually haven’t seen the schools they’re bashing and don’t know anything about the schools. |
This post just reflects your ignorance of the range of higher ed possibilities in the US and your unwillingness to learn more about them. |
That would explain a lot. So much propaganda. I do think there is at least 1 paid right wing poster as well as some people who just like to ruffle feathers. As for the anti abortion red states posters, I wouldn't call them trolls, though some are particularly strident. They speak out of conviction, even if some repeat post when they are likely aware that it has been discussed recently. |
Promoting schools uncritically can be annoying. Giving details about why schools really are awful is interesting. Bashing schools based on empty generalizations is rude. It makes the people who went to those schools feel bad for no reason. |
presumptuous to think one hasn't seen these schools. they aren't great |
Someone has been spamming Holy Cross this year. It’s a fine school. But no way that it, or any LAC outside the tier 4, is organically making its way onto half the threads. |
