Also agree with the rec upthread to use differin.

DP here. Why do you use the Obagi vit C, but Cerave cream? I always wonder what prompts someone to feel that one expensive is worth it, but another product is not (for example, I know many people who use expensive mascara but cheap eyeliner, or expensive shampoo but a cheap leave in product). Trying to learn bc I tend to be all drugstore products, but would like to upgrade at least some but not sure where to focus my dollars.

Vitamin C degrades quickly. My dermatologist told me that the Obagi Vitamin C serum was worth the splurge bc the formula had effective Vitamin C. OTH, she said there are effective gentle moisturizers at every price point. Hence the cheap Cerave.

Thank you to you, and the PP below you, for explaining your thoughts on this!

Sure thing, I hope it helps! Cerave in a tub is so cheap I like to pretend it cancels out the cost of the serum haha!

I have very dry skin (42) and love Kari gran. I use the Vit c and peptide serums. Very moisturizing, probably too much for most people but they are perfect for me.

Ha I posted about Kari Gran right after you did! Agree it’s probably really good for senior or very dry skin, l tried a serum + balm combo in the dead of winter and it was way too much for me. But I’m loving the balm for my knees and elbows etc. The vitamin C felt nice but I’m giving skinceuticals a whirl this time around. I love the way the peptide serum smells!

Wonderful that works for you! My derm - who I do not purchase products from but who does prescribe my tret - likes that I use the Skinceuticals vit c serum. Imagine that different things work for different people and different derms think different regimens are good - craaayzee!

OP asked for a moisturizing serum, your vitamin C is not that.

You don’t need expensive serums. I’m your age and my skin has gotten dryer due to thyroid issues. I’ve been doing this routine fir yeas because it gives me hydrated and plump skin:

- Japanese brand hyaluronic acid GOKUJYUN Premium, a bottle lasts me years
- Cosrx Advance Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence
Hyaluronic lotion GOKUJYUN
- Hydrating moisturizer: I switch brands but I always stick to hydrating formulas. Currently using Neutrogena Hydroboost Or Aestura ATOBARRIER 365 Hydro Soothing
- Bioessance Squalane+Omega Repair Cream. I use the Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors has the same effect so I use it on my hands

Creme de la mer the moisturizing soft cream. I’ve been using this for years and it makes my skin look amazing. I just ran out this week and while I hate spending so much, I look like hell w/o it.

OP doesn't know what she wants, other than for her skin to look better.

I’ve used the Skinceutical vitamin C, and the Amazon version is just as good if not better. The reviews are real.

It triggered my excema which had been controlled for 15+ years just FYI for anyone with sensitive skin.

The CosRX 96% snail mucin is wonderfully moisturizing as a serum. I also use a knockoff SeoulCeuticals Vit C I get on Amazon, much cheaper than SkinCeuticals and it is lovely.

My skin always looks terrible when I use a retinoid. I must be doing it wrong but it

Cheap HA‘s work great if you don’t have a sensitive skin or skin that’s prone to break out. Unfortunately, for those of us with pores that clog easily some of these cheap HA‘s are made with fillers/binders to make it feel like it has a better consistency and that clogs pours. Here I am late 40s wondering why the heck I’m breaking out again. I hate to say it, but the only HA I’ve been able to use a SkinCeuticals.

What a load of bs but you go right on ahead and pay for SC overpriced crap. Go read the "make your own" sites where they break down what is in these popular serums and give advice for how to make them yourself. HA is relatively cheap and the serums are very easy to make.

I make my own primer which is a dupe of a very expensive one. I tweak it because so much stuff affects my rosacea. I also make the best bar soap I've ever experienced that is so gentle I can wash my eyelashes with it but it removes my makeup and doesn't leave a film.

Vitamin C serum is just too easy to make yourself.
