I will say that the good thing about Elon is that he admits when he is wrong. He was totally naive about government. Now he knows. Some people think he was all good and some people think he was all bad. Obviously someone is wrong here and the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

I think we can agree that there is a debt problem that needs to be fixed. I doubt that will happen anytime soon given the political divide. We need a pragmatic middle of the road approach, but we are seriously no where close to that approach.

I give Musk no credit for recognizing that government is hard and different than what he knows. On the contrary, his 'error' is a reflection of his horribly, vastly outsized ego. He imagined that he and his minions are the smartest people in the world, and everyone in government is idiots. Had he an ounce of humility, he had a plenty of information at his fingertips to the contrary.

His hubris and recklessness is unforgiveable.

I agree and what is so galling is that he will suffer no consequences from this. He’s gained from this experience (while doing untold damage to our government) since he has been able to award himself billions in government contracts. He loves government spending— for himself!

Meanwhile, he has quite literally ruined lives. He has set back scientific progress. He has almost destroyed the nonpartisan civil service, which this country built over 100 years. There were other actors helping him but he was the catalyst for this tremendous damage.

It was a complete self-inflicted wound, an “own goal” on this country. Shameful, absolutely shameful.

One good thing to come out of DOGE is that Elon has been exposed for the flaming moron he is.

So, while purporting to save American taxpayers money by gutting the government, spendy billionaire Trump is actually spending MORE money than Biden did during the same period.

The headline from the WSJ article:

See How Government Spending Is Up Even as Musk Touts Savings: Musk team’s $150 billion in savings barely dents $6.8 trillion in spending largely on autopilot, WSJ analysis finds.

Sadly, you can put this headline right in front of most Trump supporters and they'll insist it's all deep-state lies (as the Trump admin continues to drain their pockets).

Yup, there is a lot of delusion and mental illness in the country.

On what planet is this money worth saving?

IF that is true, then we have truly been taken over by the enemy within. I fear that in hindsight it is going to look so obvious that future historians will be incredulous about how this takeover happened.

How is it different operationally? He wrecks everything he touches at the companies he bought.

He is a financier and a lying salesman, and in capitalist, free market America that generates more revenue than they lose from his meddling with the real work.

Last of the baby boomers are retiring. Social Security and Medicare spending will go up.

Actually, no, because Republicans killed so many older people with COVID that there have been years added to the solvency of Social security.

Looks like the no masking, no vaccines is the plan for the foreseeable future as well, so numbers of people who survive to retirement or have a longer retirement will decline.

Another almost billion in savings disappeared from the DOGE website in the early hours of the morning.

In the latest example of altering figures on the agency’s website, staffers at DOGE seemingly updated its claimed savings overnight on Tuesday, erasing approximately $962 million, according to NOTUS.

His met his goal of destroying all the agencies that were investigating his activity.

Didn't he say he'd go to jail if Trump wasn't elected? He is a major drama queen, but that was also prob the truth.

That’s not true! He will lose his job in May.

These DOGE people see themselves as revolutionaries, like Maoists or Stalinists. They want to destroy institutions, institute command/control economy, destroy the courts, and takeover education (if not outright destroy it).

Treat them like revolutionaries. They are obsessed with “communists” because have adopted the same tactics and goals.

So what’s the current estimate of what DOGE is actually saving vs costing? Does it include the hiring of contractors after the FDA f-up? Does it include all the cleanup for all their mistakes? All the added court cases?
