Why do gifted children need a peer group

I advocated for AAP for my oldest DC.

Despite getting a 146 on FCPS’ own as mistranslation of the NNAT, his teacher didn’t see him as gifted. I also had outside IQ testing performed to confirm.

DC started to regress in the classroom in 1st grade. He had a brand new teacher as well as a class mix of 17 boys and 6 girls. One kid was throwing scissors at fellow students, etc. H was also not using the bathroom during the day (bathroom in classroom) because the door didn’t lock and he was petrified of some walking in on him. My final straw was when he had an accident at school and I had to bring clothes up to the school. This was a child would never had an accident since he was like 3 years old and had none during kindergarten at the same school. Clearly the classroom was affecting him. My thought was AAP might provide a better solution for him.
