+1
If ever a school needed this - my kids both had horrible experiences at Kilmer.

I see other schools doing this for a week or so but not on display by the front door in this way and not in the newsletter each week like it is here. I'm glad it's getting positive reporting in the midst of all that is going wrong in the area. https://kilmerms.fcps.edu/aggregator
This program has been going on for several years there but was just in the news recently. Kilmer is one of the top 5 schools in FCPS in numbers of children to TJ so it's also known for its academics. It's also known for it's music and inclusion. It's a well-rounded school.

Good luck selling that house.

Bingo. And do they actually say what the "kind act" was? Or do they just give random kids a shout out for "being kind"? Ridiculous.

The kid gets recognition, a shoutout and…a 50c snack.

They are called out specifically. Larla, awesome job welcoming the new student and inviting them to sit at your linch table. It’s a great program and my 12yo was pumped to be called out.

How do they keep tabs on all these random acts of being decent? Sounds almost like a “Black Mirror” episode.

Don’t all FCPS middle schools do something like this? I’ve taught at 3, and all had a version. One school passed out “kindness cards” teachers filled out for kids. They went into weekly raffles. One school was teamed and each team submitted 4-5 names each month of students who had done positive things to be recognized. The third had us track contacts to parents and required every teacher to contact every parent at least once a year with a positive note (130+ emails, it was a lot)

I think positive reinforcement of good values and human decency is especially important in middle school, but I don’t think this is anything unique.
